Daughter sent scan of NMSF letter and received invite to event on 11/17.
I posted a question and 2 minutes later found my info. So Iâll post it here.
I was trying to find my info on which NMF generous schools also cover grad school. I have:
- Univ Alabama
- Univ S Florida
- Univ Texas Dallas
- Univ Oklahoma
Anyone know of others? And yes, I understand that in some situations students can get good graduate funding.
Anyone know of other NMF schools that also cover grad school?? Thanks
Is this the week that we think NMSC will notify students who will not be named finalists (via mailed letters)? If I recall from past years, it is right around this time. If the timeline from past years holds true, finalist status should be confirmed by this time next month!
I read somewhere letters will be sent out to schools first week of Feb.

HOW WILL SEMIFINALISTS KNOW IF THEY BECOME FINALISTS? | |
---|---|
On February 5, 2024, NMSC will mail a Certificate of Merit for each Finalist to the Finalistâs high school principal. | |
On February 12, 2024, NMSC will mail a letter to each Finalist at their home address. A copy of the letter will also be posted to the Finalistâs OSA dashboard. | |
Semifinalists who do not advance to Finalist standing will be notified in writing. Notification will be mailed to high school officials and the studentsâ homes. |
Typically, letters get sent to students who donât advance a couple weeks ahead of when schools are sent the Certificate of Merit for finalists. I suspect the letters that are sent to students who do not advance to finalists will be mailed this week. I am curious if anyone has heard anything.
ETA - In my daughterâs year, her status was confirmed by the day that the NMSC mailed a letter to our home address. She was âofficiallyâ notified by several of the colleges to which she applied. 'Congratulations on being named a National Merit FinalistâŠ"
Any reports of rejection letters yet? We are cautiously optimistic, but the bad weather last week has us nervous about mail delivery times.
I saw a post in a Facebook group from someone who received a rejection letter yesterday :(.
I called NMSC this morning. They did not provide the actual date, but did say letter went out âa couple of weeks agoâ and that theyâve received many calls (so people are receiving them). I guess weâre closing in on the âno news is good newsâ date.
Any updates on NMS finalists?
Principal letters should be mailed out today, according to the timeline. Iâm not counting on any update from our school (although, maybe!). I read somewhere (either on CC or Reddit) that some kids have gotten congratulatory emails from colleges prior to the results posting on OSA (next Monday). Iâm stalking this thread and reddit for the next 7 days!
Today, NMSC is mailing a Certificate of Merit to each finalistâs high school principal. I suspect some students will receive formal confirmation of their finalist status this week!
Feeling out of the loop. Is this a webpage with a link?
The link where they submitted all the finalist stuff will be updated with the results. We havenât logged in since October, so I have no idea what it looks like right now. Might do that today.
I just had my son log into his OSA portal, but there was nothing new in there. I guess weâre all just gonna have to wait a bit longer (even tho I HATE waiting!!!).
Itâs tough when your school principal/admin cares so little about the accomplishment. My daughter is in the same boat, principal hasnât even acknowledged it or any other academic accomplishment, but you can bet if a football player makes two touchdowns in a game heâs all over the schoolâs social media and high-fiving with the principal. Congrats to you for your accomplishments (whether you are a parent or a student, not sure!) and best of luck!
We had that happen from UCF. They sent an email invitation that said âAs a National Merit FinalistâŠâ Still waiting for the official from the school or next week from NMSC before we celebrate fully.
That really drives me nuts. Our school district says they donât want to celebrate academic achievements publicly because it can alternatively affect the self esteem of those who are not celebrated. Meanwhile we have Homecoming royalty, athletes have special signing days, etc. It makes no sense.
Our school district got a letter for DS but misplaced it. So they are trying to find it now.
This irks me to no end. Happens at our school, too. Im on the principal all the time about equity in that respect. A few things have improved, but it is an uphill battle.
