@rickle1 my understanding was that all MT kids that get the pass were equal in the eyes of admissions, but I could have misunderstood that. I do know it’s not all or nothing because my D was admitted “undeclared” so she obviously did not pass the MT audition, but Syracuse still accepted her academically.
@rickle1 I am older, but maybe not Moses old LOL!!! But thank you for appreciating my commentary. I am also always learning and have dedicated two years to helping these two kids get through this year and am honestly happy to help anyone who needs it…The two who are supposed to come through next year may end up taking a gap year, based on what they learned through the other two this year! But I love this community and am excited to see where all your kids land and what they are doing five years from now!!
Ugh… that’s an easy thing for someone who was able to get 2 Tonys without going to school to say. Yes, if you have supernatural talent that doesn’t need to be developed at all, then definitely major in something else.
Ted Williams was a terrible baseball manager because he couldn’t comprehend why people couldn’t just stand in the batter’s box and hit .400.
@TexasMTDad – I always loved the Ted Williams analogy. Same reason why Magic Johnson was a terrible NBA coach. Bird was much better because, while insanely talened, he was also a grinder. Meanwhile, Michael Jordan may be the worst owner in NBA history.
@StanfordAI2019 I’m a big Rangers fan and Tom Grieve talks about Ted Williams from time to time (he was the Ranger’s first manager).
PS - I already miss sports. Gonna be a long 8+ weeks.
For the sports fans - ESPN has been running pretty cool stuff. They have a NBA how that has 62 15 minute vignettes on the history of the league. Caught 4 or 5 of them the other night. Was so great! Brought back lots of memories. I watched the merging of the NBA / ABA (remember Dr. J and the red / white/ blue ball?) . Game is so different today. I always say the kids today wouldn’t last because it was soooo physical back then.
OK back to theater…
@rickle1 - good stuff. Yeah, I don’t like it when people compare the 2015-2018 Golden State Warriors to the Bulls of the 90’s. Bulls would have slaughtered them in the hand check era, but the Warriors would have run them out of the gym in this new era. Also, imagine Kevin Durant trying to play the post against Ewing, Mason, and Charles Oakley. Apples to oranges
@StanfordAI2019 Yeah. Go back even further and think about them playing Maurice Lucas (Trailblazers) or Wes Unseld or Rick Mahorn or any number of players. The basic guard was fierce having to deal with the hand checking. And no three point line so it was about pounding it down low, not the inside out game of today.
@rickle1 @TexasMTDad @NYYFanNowMTdad - it was only a matter of time before the dads took over the message boards with sports talk. I got my NFL FA tracker going on in the background here. Crazy first two days thus far.
@StanfordAI2019 @TexasMTDad @NYYFanNowMTdad @rickle1 – some of us moms are huge sports fans too! World’s biggest New Orleans Saints fan here…a big news day for us, and for any Patriots fans out there as well.
@muttsandMT - yep. Drew Brees with a 2 year extension. Looks like Bridgewater to the Panthers, so hopefully Drew can stay healthy. The Patriots empire is finally done. As a Chiefs fan, I can say that it couldn’t happen to a better team
Hey Sports Fans – Sorry to sound like a dud (especially for a UMich grad/Warriors Fan), but can you move your thread to a new one? I’d love to bring this thread back to us poor souls without a BFA MT in our pocket and looking at gap year? Thanks!!
I love NFL, too!! And I will admit I am a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and am so excited we finally have a new coach! Also, great to see Tommy going to another team as I have had about enough of the Patriots.
Hey MT peeps, College Confidential has a great, and very active, forum for off topic discussions. It is the Parent Cafe. Here is the link:
Oops – my apologies, everyone! In no way did I mean to be insensitive to, or uncaring about, the topic of this thread. To be honest, I had kind of lost track of which thread I was replying on (insert embarrassed emoji here!) . No more sports talk from me here.
Well, I didn’t mean to open up a can of worms.
Doesn’t seem to be a lot of activity since the virtual ‘shutdown.’ Got emails today from two schools that said they were delaying admission decisions based on the situation we are all in. Ours were from Western Michigan and Stephen F. Austin [neither top choice schools for us]. Anyone else receive any?
As one of the biggest Patriot / Brady fans on earth, today is a bit of a jolt. Oddly enough, the rumors are he’ll be a Buc. Although I grew up 5 minutes from what is now known as Gillette, I’ve lived in Tampa for 27 yrs. I’ve never been a Bucs fan. They’re just a boring football team to me. I can’t picture the GOAT coming here with it’s long track record of losing and really poor discipline, culture (probably the worst part of the team). He can’t change the culture in two yrs. But they have really good receivers. I’m surprised it’s not LA or the Raiders.
@StanfordAI2019 - same here, just notices of delayed decision deadlines. In some ways that’s good, since maybe there’s a chance to visit some of the admitted schools, but totally bites for the waitlists.
