@bridgenail - Such helpful advice! I just read your post to my daughter to help her as she prepares for a master class this week.
@mom2clarinetobsessedkid Yes the Dec 1 deadline and Essay fatigue is so real. So many of them. On top of everything else. 11 Days left but who is counting
@mom2clarinetobsessedkid, YES essay fatigue is real lol. My kid hasn’t said it but I was thinking it, I can’t wait to get to the fun stuff.
@Doransa lol now I’m counting!
@Doransa and @mom2clarinetobsessedkid I hear you. D and I shook hands tonight, absolutely everything must be uploaded and submitted by Wednesday night. I’m so over these applications and agonizing over recordings. This one is too sharp, this one has rushing eight notes, too soft too loud you name it. Sounds like a Dr Seuss book.
@SweetStrings same here. Eastman wants all scores and recordings by snail mail. All needs to arrive on December 1st to the school. We need to get the scores in the mail latest by Tuesday morning. He is still recording this Friday and Saturday. I am just crossing my fingers, and holding my breath… So close… Good luck to all.
I remember our using priority/overnight for at least one college last year (not Eastman, though). Is that an option for yoI?
@Doransa, remember that for composers, the scores are the important thing
@MMRose We are going to overnight the scores for sure. I checked Eastman web site and of course they are on Thanksgiving break 11/26 till 12/2. I am thinking maybe we can just mail the scores Saturday and make sure it is being delivered by Monday.
@compmom you are right. One of the pieces might be missing recording, if we mail it Saturday morning. But scores are the most important thing in his case.
I remember an angry Thanksgiving many years ago. It went something like this:
Everything is going to be done early November! Well that didn’t work.
Everything will be done Thanksgiving weekend…or not.
Everything will be done by Dec. 1…unless it’s got a deadline of Jan. 1. Then it will done by Xmas…maybe.
Dec. 31 still getting stuff done…
@bridgenail we are at the Thanksgiving weekend stage now.
I really really hope he can submit by December 1st, and we do not loose internet connection etc…
Just recorded my pre-screens today. Still on pins and needles for everything to turn out correctly with no crazy issues, but after Dec 1 I will heave a sigh of relief and get ready to travel!!!
Congratulations @Racingfan53 way to go!!
@Musicmom2two hope that Thursday audition went well! Did you go to Disney to celebrate?
@Racingfan53 very last minute, but did you look at Baylor? Music Ed with Choral. My daughter is really happy there.

Way to go to everyone who has already auditioned. Off and running! Can’t wait to celebrate everyone’s hard work and success.
If you have an audition date on the books (prescreen required or not), come on over and add to our Prescreen 2020 thread. The name is a bit misleading. We’re tracking all auditions. Optional, obviously, but I’d love to see more names!

I hope everyone is doing well today!
D had her Berklee Audition yesterday and she was very happy with how it went. It really was just as they said it would be on the website. She warmed up for 15 minutes, Then had her audition. They loved her original song. There was not enough time for her prepared piece. They tested her on pitch, rhythm and sight reading. She felt strongly that she nailed everything on the sight reading. Knowing her she did fine on the pitch and rhythm as well.
The one thing I’m unsure about (she is not worried) is that they then asked her to improvise. She is not a jazz vocalist and has never done that before. She said she did terribly at that but gave it her best shot and that they knew that and seemed to appreciate her effort. The voice instructor did say that she is not expected to know how to improvise if she is not a jazz student.
After that she had her interview which followed the questions on the website. This was the hardest part for her. At the end they told her she would hear “by Jan 31.” So fingers crossed!
@tableforsix we did not hit Disney on the way home. We will be back there in December when D’s chorus sings in Candlelight Processional.
Frost is next up in 2 weeks. And she has NYU’s app left to finish and submit. Still waiting to hear from BU if she passed the prescreen.
But Meanwhile D1 is coming home Tuesday for Thanksgiving. I can’t wait to see her.
Congrats to your daughter on a great audition, @Musicmom2two ! Bet that feels good.
WOW very cool on being part of Candlelight Processional!
My D1 is also flying in on Tuesday for the holiday. A treat to have them home!
S got all apps in and now we wait for prescreen results. Pretty happy with prescreen videos. Still a few odds and ends (like sending a couple transcripts and uploading tax forms).
For those waiting on prescreen results, will those results affect what repertoire you/your musician is practicing or is it pretty consistent across your schools?
@Musicmom2two sounds like a great start! Would you mind sharing what they asked on the Berklee interview? A friend’s son is applying and this is a worry for him.
Congrats for @tableforsix’ S in getting all his apps in, as well! Where is everyone else in the process? Thinking of all of you!
@akapiratequeen D said that they asked all the questions they listed on the website. What are your strengths? How will your qualities add to the Berklee community? Do you see yourself continuing your education after you graduate? There may have been a few more. But basically what ever was listed on the website.
D has submitted 7 of 8 applications. She just has to finish and submit NYU. She is still waiting to hear from BU about her prescreen.
Thank you, really helpful. Re: Berklee, I am surprised about the 1/31 date. The kids definitely heard by Christmas last year.
And that is fabulous about the applications, great list. Is she applying to Tisch or Steinhardt at NYU? (My daughter went there.)
@akapiratequeen I think Berklee says “by 1/31” but might let them know before Xmas break. I checked on last years thread.
D is applying to Steinhardt.
