Class of 2024 undergrad/Class of 2022 grad: The Tours, the Auditions, the Journey

Congrats all! Lots of super good news flowing through the thread! @tubamama - Stanford tuition free is not something to be taken lightly and is an unbelievable honor. Your S must be so excited. There’s a Princeton dad on the forum who has written a lot about his son’s experience in an elite university setting. Which might be helpful… congrats,

Congratulations, tuba mama!!!

@tubamama best news ever!! So happy for you and your son!

@tubamama a huge congratulations on the Stanford acceptance!! Wow your S has a lot to think about but such a happy problem to have.

Thank you @raincat. I will check it out. I think I remember the Princeton acceptance last year

Oops. I meant @Lendlees . I will check out the Princeton dad posts. This has been a wonderful early Christmas present for sure.

@tubamama where is the button to press for ”Holy cannoli!!!..WOW! WOW! WOW!..Congratulations to all!”? What a celebration must be going on at your house!

Congratulations @tubamama great news.

Wowza @tubamama!!! So excited for you and your talented kid! My best friend from high school currently attends Stanford and she LOVES it there. I also know quite a few girls from my choir who ended up there. Again congrats!!!

@tubamama congratulations – that is amazing! Woo hoo!

So, S got an mail from Frost saying that they will not send out prescreens results until after the New Year and that this will still give plenty of time to plan travel. I suppose it will be nice for S to just put it out of his mind until after the holidays.

My son received the same email yesterday from Frost regarding prescreens.

Can someone post some good LAC’s with a strong music program for a violin performance that don’t require an audition? Thanks!

It’s been super quiet here on the thread but no so much in my house. D is actually starting her summer festival audition recordings now. It’s never ending  We’re slowly buying hats and gloves, travel supplies, audition clothes etc… I’m trying to keep costs down when I can but travel is pricey. How’s everyone else doing?

Still need to buy Missouri tickets. They are so expensive. I am thinking about driving but it is about 10 hrs. drive for us. We are used to cold weather so we have winter clothes. Hoping and wishing for warmer winter with no major snow storms. His first interview in two weeks.

We have travel in place for the USC audition and looking at airfares for Miami. Miami is a hassle to get to, the only direct flight is a red-eye. Husband is taking him to that one and wants to wait a few days to book because of a possible work trip right after. I’d like to get it nailed down.

Still waiting to hear from NYU. With the Berklee scholarship S decided not to apply to the non-audition academic schools so he has only two more, three at most, auditions. Everyone said schools would drop off the list but I didn’t really believe it until now.

Same here - trying to nail down the last travel plans (just one last school to hear from – so ready to be done with this stage!) and figuring out how much more winter gear to buy. It’s hard to believe that her first audition will be here in just a couple weeks.

She’s started looking at summer programs, but isn’t sure how long she wants to be gone or how far away to travel. I’d be happy to have her home all summer.

@SweetStrings, we used our prescreen recordings for the summer festival apps since they were made very recently. The trouble we ran into was begging for more letters of recommendation on the heels of the college apps. We sure do owe our recommenders a great deal!

@raincat, I remember NYU being MUCH later than the rest of the schools in coming out with their prescreening results. By the time my son heard from them, he had been admitted to a couple of schools he knew he would choose over NYU so that is the one audition that he ultimately turned down.

So it turns out that Berklee was D’s first choice. She didn’t want to say because she didn’t think she would get in let alone the scholarship. So, she has officially committed to going to Berklee. She has pulled her other applications and canceled her other auditions. Except for Frost. She auditioned there and would like to see how it plays out. But yeah- she is Berklee Bound!

I’m not going to lie- it seems a bit surreal to be done.

Congratulations to everyone on the various acceptances and passing pre screens. It is so exciting to watch.
