Class of 2024 undergrad/Class of 2022 grad: The Tours, the Auditions, the Journey

So it’s a little thing in the grand scheme of the world right now, but at the moment, it is giving us joy. D was asked to sing the National Anthem at Northwestern’s commencement. The committee told her she would have been doing it live, but as it is, it will be via Zoom from home. She is really excited and it adds back a little something to the end of a very unusual year, giving her some closure to the BM.

That’s really cool, @songbirdmama —happy for her and glad to read something good!

@songbirdmama that’s so exciting ??

@songbirdmama - Wonderful news and what an honor! It’s a tough year for those graduating, so it all helps.

My daughter was supposed to sing the national anthem and school song at her graduation this year also but it’s been cancelled. We don’t know if it will be rescheduled or not.

On the bright side, several of her music department friends, who are not graduating this year, just honored her by playing ‘Pomp and Circumstance’ in our driveway - socially distanced of course. Made us both cry.

Urgent question: D (VP major) down to the wire deciding between Peabody and Frost. Anyone have insights? Are there any current Peabody undergrads here who would be willing to connect with her via social media or phone? Please PM me!

Here is some info from the list posted by @BenniesMom1 :

“Some of the aspects we took into consideration for our ranking include tuition, graduation rates, acceptance rates, degree programs offered, tuition changes, and more.”

I read the fine print because Juilliard and Curtis weren’t at the top! But these are all helpful factors.

Well it looks like this Class has passed out of April Angst and only has the Buyer’s Remorse stage of May to go through. Of course not everyone has Buyer’s Remorse but it’s common enough…so no worries if you wake up at night wondering if you/your kid made the wrong choice. Two other comments:

Your kid will enter college as a budding musician and exit utterly transformed. It’s really amazing to watch. If you think your kid is good now just wait.

I hope there is a brave parent of a jr out there to start next year’s class thread. This one was started last April. That parent doesn’t need to manage it, just start it. I’ve already seen discussion amongst some jr parents that could be helpful for more parents that join. So feel inspired to start the Class of 2025 journey thread to build your community.
