Class of 2028 - General Engineering admission advice needed

The best strategy will be taking 13 hours in Fall, don’t claim any AP credit until admitted to a major in sophomore. (still send all AP scores but hold off any claiming).
ETAM is mainly on 2 Maths, 2 Engineering and 2 science classes, that’s what holistic review will focus on. For MEEN, one may get in 3.6 with government/history B but one may not with Calc 1 or Phys B.
One does not need to follow the degree plan as long as students have the minimum 12 hours. Advisors won’t force students taking ENG in first semester.

Others can answer some of your specifics, but I will say your main asset is the Corps advising, and the Corps in general. I think if your Aggie can use guidance from the Corps (advisors and upperclassmen) to select courses and most importantly, the instructors. Tell him to really listen to their advice. I think the instructors really make a difference. If your Aggie is flexible about which type of engineering, I think he will have a lot of success. Again, use the Corps advisors to help select which major, pick one with the most good instructors. It can change year over year. Also, learn Python over summer. Eyes on the prize and it might get scary now and then but it will work out OK. Also get advice on which classes to get a tutor for and what tutor to hire. I personally feel a lot of self teaching is expected in the TAMU engineering curriculum.

@DarkhorseMW Definitely best to take 12-13 hours freshman year to have the best chance for a successful ETAM - IMO this is now the new normal for those familiar with ETAM. The two engineering classes are lots of coding and the tests require lots of fast writing, so its great to have coding experience coming in. My son had similar HS classes to yours, but lots of coding and no robotics. Calc 1 and 2 were mostly review, as was chem and phys, so easy As. Coding was review also but the tests were very challenging to stop everyone from getting an A.

Any suggestions on a fairly easy elective or university core curriculum class to take Freshman year in addition to core engineering classes?

Highly suggest joining the Aggie Parents of Engineering FB page, if you haven’t already -

Can you tell me what happened in the end? My son is thinking about applying both to TAMU-CS and TAMUG.
