Still waiting (jazz piano)
Last year it came out in March with on the RD date… it was hard waiting!
I didn’t say drop out of music at all, I was talking about as a career. There had to be some connection to music, you can’t force a kid to be a musician, which plenty of parents do try (and fail). And yes a lot of the kids in those programs go on to careers and still play amateur music, and there is nothing implied that somehow that is wrong. I was explaining what the parent who asked about it, why they saw what they did. My point simply was that a lot of the kids in the pre college programs likely have either no desire to go into music as a career or in the end might toy with it but realize it isn’t for them (which obviously is fine). I am saying is that the kids in a lot of cases were encouraged initially in music by parents who know that being a high level musician can help with admissions to tough admit schools, and that is why they supported the kid doing it, that’s all.
thanks! It is the hard part to wait!
thank you! Hopefully his professor will give us a little insight
We received NYU prescreen results today. Hope you get some good news!
Congratulations! Would you mind sharing which program? Classical? Jazz? MADE?
Hi! Classical percussion
Yes - DD auditioned on Friday for viola performance
Got mine aswell, going up to NYC March 6th!
HI! did you submit a prescreen for percussion at NYU? grad school?
Our Student had audition at Boston University last Friday. It was different than the places that have a whole day of tours and things. There was a 15 minute slot for audition and there were two times during the day where the head of the music program did a short talk with Q and A. And then they were done! This seemed to be the same process for each instrument that were there, just arrive as instructed and get shown a warm up studio and then do your audition and attend q and a as able.
I’m sure you could get a university tour and info session if desired, but we’d already done that in the past.
So it was a good process, just thought it might be helpful to know as it seems that was the process for all instruments at BU.
oh that is helpful. thank you!
oh sorry i mixed up the thread and see you were speaking of Frost! Sorry!!!
That is ok. Easy to do!!
Hi! Since you are also a guitar parent-- when you travelled for auditions, did you bring an amp? Or did all schools provide an amp?
Every school provided one. Once my son went to college we bought him one that he leaves there year round to make life easier. Most gigs he travels for always have an amp provided as well. He travels home and to “flying” gigs with a guitar and pedalboard which he puts in a checked bag with an AirTag…there is really no other good solution due to limitations with carry-ons. Hope this helps
Very helpful. Thank you!
Glad to find this thread! My kid applied to composition programs this year.
I’m wondering if anyone knows whether Oberlin and Peabody Conservatories request mid-year grades? It’s been tough keeping the grades up during the portfolio and application process this year! USC asked for the grades, but haven’t been asked by Oberlin or Peabody and hope it stays that way.
Hi! Can I ask when USC asked for grades? I want to make sure my son didn’t miss something.
