Hello all!
Does anyone know when USC and UMich are releasing acceptances? BM piano performance.
Annnnnnd we are officially done with college auditions! My son had his last audition today at MSM. We are now on our way to the airport to head back home. It’s been a whirlwind audition season filled with so many great options. Now we wait to see who wins him over.
I feel like USC said “by April 1st” which I know is super vague and soooooo not helpful
My son just finished all his auditions (ending with IU Jacobs). He’s cooked! He says he doesn’t really want to play his trombone for a week! Is it good to take a little breather?
My daughter’s teacher thinks so; he recommended it. Of course, mine came down with the flu the day after her final audition – so she’s taking a break whether she wants to or not!
My daughter’s teacher at the university recommended a break as well and forbade her from taking a lesson this week. We finished Sunday, and my girl was exhausted and said she was done for a while, but then I heard her “practicing” her rep and making corrections in the shower last night (vocalist)! They can’t stay away for long if they love it ![]()
Thank goodness the auditions were over when the flu arrived! My DD and I were praying we could stay healthy during all the traveling. We traveled every weekend starting end of January, some weekend she had 2 auditions. We took extra precautions and we made it thru healthy!
My opinion…since you asked…is to hide that thing for a week.
I know it was helpful to me to see what schools people were waiting on in last years thread…..since we are in the waiting part of it all. So here I am sharing where we are at in the process:
Admitted w/financials:
Admitted waiting music scholarship & financials:
Awaiting Admissions Decisions:
And Temple?? I am wondering how they will compare ![]()
My son actually dropped Temple last week. It just wasn’t high enough on his list to bother with that final audition.
Gotcha! We only had one live audition there, so not as big of a process!
So helpful- appears to be a rolling notification for the schools. Which in someways is worse, would be nice if there a date certain to hear everything!
Also waiting to hear from Thornton, Vanderbilt, McGill and Shepherd.
Time for my update:
son, double majoring in music performance (clarinet) and data science, concentrating on public schools that have solid music programs, and didn’t apply to any conservatories (so different than some of your talented kiddos).
Applications:
Jacobs (our in state option)- Admitted to university; Waiting for 3/18 music school decision date.
Michigan State - Waiting for decision; $28K/annual academic scholarship
CU-Boulder - Admitted to music school; $6K/annual academic scholarship; Waiting on music scholarship.
UMich - passed prescreen; Denied admission post audition, but he bombed the audition so wasn’t a surprise
UWashington-Seattle - Admitted to music school; $4K/annual academic scholarship. Waiting on music scholarship but school doesn’t invest in music, so not expecting much.
Thanks for sending. My son is having a great experience in his first year at Jacobs.
You’re welcome, and that’s wonderful! My youngest, who’s a sophomore there in VP, absolutely loves it. It’s busy and super challenging, but combined with the opportunities to which she’s being exposed, a caring studio prof with high expectations, and her super tight cohort of fellow VP majors (not to mention a stellar football team;), she’s having the time of her life:).
So some of these schools that he got into said in March but I guess his audition was good enough that they accepted him really soon after his audition. I do wish there were set in stone dates because it makes it easier for EVERYONE.
USC usually releases on last Friday of March, so I expect it will be 3/27 at around 3pm.
Ugh the torture! These schools really are going to give us NO time to make a decision.
