Class Ring

Gold was only $35/oz in my day. :(

I can’t imagine wearing mine as a status symbol or to show interviewers where I went to school. I just wear them because I like to wear rings. They really only have meaning to me. DS loves his HS ring and wears it all the time. I’m surprised he hasn’t lost it.

Sylvan–I didn’t wear my MIT ring as a status symbol. When I lived in Massachusetts, it was a conversation starter. I’d be at the grocery store waiting in line and the person behind me would say “what year were you at MIT?” 10% of the families in my small town had an MIT community member–either a student, faculty member, or employee. (No, I didn’t live in Cambridge.) Once I moved west, I went a year or more without anyone noticing the ring (the MIT brass rat is extremely distinctive) and so I took it off. I do wear it occasionally–like when I go east ;-)
