And the timeslots for those days of LLCs are still ordered by application date? My son has a floor and “side of the building” all picked out in his head…just curious whether he’ll be early enough in line to get what he wants.
@HokieCrazy has your son made a final decision yet? Mine hasn’t, it’s so stressful.
Nope, not yet. He has 4 1/2 schools to hear from, still. But, my guess is it’ll be his choice unless something crazy happens in the next couple of weeks.
Hi. We are weighing the same option CH (Core) v CUBS. Unfortunately our FTD was just cancelled so we don’t have opportunity to look at them in person and it’s hard to get a feel online. I don’t mind the long walk to the stadium bc that wont be a daily occurrence but I’m wondering as freshman where most of their classes will be and if at least a handful will be in new business school? Leaning towards CUBS bc I feel there are more business classes and i think only 1 honors class per semester is required? Better for study groups in CUBS i’d guess than Core? But confused so any thoughts on pros and cons for a business honors student is appreciated.
Also if there are difference in rooms within Building E (the CUBS building) that would be another great thing to be made aware of since again we can’t visit with the closed campus.
What are the pros/cons to sides of the building? That has me curious
They let us see inside the dorms on our RISE tour last weekend, actually. It was not really part of the FTD, though. We just stopped by after that was finished, and they gave us a walking tour of Lever.
@pmgacc! If it’s any consolation, I would note that during tours or FTD you typically won’t be given the opportunity to see inside the dorms anyway (unlike at many other campuses) so those cancellations won’t affect your ability to see things firsthand. The only way to see inside a dorm room at Clemson is to know an existing student who would be able to show you his/her room and who would perhaps have a friend willing to do the same at another dorm.
Clemson has on-line photos of the various dorms at their housing site (https://housing.clemson.edu/livin-options/suites/) and there are a number of Clemson Facebook sites where members post dorm photos to help incoming students visualize what the dorms look like. If you Google Clemson and the name of the dorm and look in the Images tab you can probably also get an idea.
Actually today we did see Honors College housing and RISE. They did take us inside today.
@“pmgacc!” I wouldn’t over think the dorms. The student fall right in to the rhythm of where they live and it all works. I suggest deciding if you want to be in CUBS first. CUBS is what the students make of it. Study groups happen all over campus and only a handful of Honors classes are in Core anyway. There typically is no better side of a building, except maybe Core where one side can see the stadium. Core fills fast so make sure your student has at least 5-7 options they’d be happy with. Classes are all over campus as freshman and sophomores. Also, check the prices. They vary significantly in the dorms.
@PSU83EE What about the wet-core bathroom situation? How did your DD find that to be? So basically you go to a big room and there are closed off full bathrooms that include showers but your access room is shared by both men and women?
Actually the bathrooms were not at all what I expected (based on my…decades old…experience with common core bathrooms.) While they are shared among the students, each space is essentially a private bathroom with a sink, shower and toilet, and there were designated men’s & women’s spaces. As an only child, my DD is used to having her own space but has never had a complaint. There are photos of Gressette’s wet core specifically on the Clemson Housing page, and you can kind of see how there are private sub-bathrooms (?) within the common bathroom area.
The common bathroom area is not co-ed, though, right? I thought that was still by floor in wet-core housing.
@HokieCrazy It’s co-ed and the floor is co-ed in Core C. Sometimes the students on the floor designate one for men and one for women, but not officially, unless that has changed.
I thought that the bathrooms were private (shared only with others in your suite/room) in Core C.
Can’t comment directly on Core C (Deschamps?) but in Core A (Gressette) where my DD was, what @HokieCrazy states is correct. The floor is co-ed and the bathrooms are co-ed, although at least on her floor they were for the most part self-segregated between men and women.
