CMU [$300k to graduation] vs Georgia Tech [$150k to graduation] for CS

It’s not just the one internship vs. two.

You are assuming that when employers look at a transcript (many companies that hire for finance ask for a transcript along with the resume) that they are indifferent as to which version of a course a kid took (DE, AP, summer school at a local college or their actual university) and that’s not the case. A big company (bank, corporation, insurance company) can teach the particulars if the fundamentals are strong. So the quality control on the fundamentals-- where was the class taken, and how did the kid do?

Graduating with 25% LESS isn’t something to be taken lightly. Fewer semesters to show leadership in a meaningful EC. Fewer semesters to work with faculty. Less of everything if a kid does three years vs. four.

Most organizations - even engineering - ask you to upload a transcript.

Both my kids - the social science and engineering - would add a transcript - either requested or “other items to add”.

I wouldn’t want my kid to graduate in 3 years and I can see it being held against for the reasons you mention.

On the flip side, it’s a huge financial savings and a student in the position to accomplish that and save money can sell that - if they get the opportunity to do so. And for some it’s the “why” they could even go to college to begin with - and that’s wonderful too - but of course, the employer has to see that benefit.

It isn’t being “held against” anyone.

It’s just that someone with three years of college is going to be compared to someone with four years. And in the job market, more is frequently better than less. There are certainly those who believe that a degree is a degree is a degree. But most colleges have a “more rigorous” or tougher path to graduate, and the easy way. And employers know the difference. And those who believe that a degree is a degree is a degree are often the same folks who claim “it doesn’t matter where you go” which is true some of the time, not all of the time. And they often believe there are “magic bullet” majors which is absolutely not the case. Just ask the kids who majored in petroleum engineering and graduated just as the energy markets were tanking.

Please get back to the OP. The debate about graduating in three years has been more than sufficiently covered… and debate is against ToS. If anything else needs to be said, please take it to PM. Thank you for your understanding.
