For those of us with smaller budgets … I have a Krups (no model # on machine … I got the newest that was out last summer w/silver carafe). We like it. It makes a good cup of coffee. It helps to warm up the carafe first with hot water; it holds the coffee warmer longer that way.

Totally agree with kelsmom- Krups with silver stainless carafe and warm it up first. Ours is a 10-cupper though.

Well, I got a new coffee maker. I bought the new Cuisinart 12 cup insulated carafe coffeemaker with the burr grinder. You can also use grounds. The 12 cup carafe is a REAL 12 cupper (I think it must be twelve 6 oz cups), and it comes out really hot and stays quite hot for hours and hours. You can set it to make 6/8/10/12 cups, and you can set the strength from weak/mild/strong. It is not that loud at all (to my surprise), and grinds quickly. And best of all, it has one of those systems where you just tip the pot and pour. When it is in a lateral pour position the coffee flows nicely without having to hold down anything. When it is upright, it is sealed and doesn’t loose heat. I am in heaven again… I paid $140 for it. It seems worth it. It seems well made and should last years. The Cuisinart insulated pot coffeemaker I bought (NOT the Mr Coffee) lasted 7+ years of office use, 2-3 pots a day M-F.
