Coffee Maker Recommendation

I have a Miele super-automatic espresso machine and it makes me happy every day.
I purchased it in 2015, and I’ve had no issues with it. I do clean it regularly. The one I have is probably comparable to the $2,900ish one at Williams-Sonoma.

I just researched less expensive options for my DIL, and seriously considered a Gaggia, but wound up with a different one because I got a great price on it. (I can’t remember which we got - I think it was Delonghi).
I have purchased 2 Jura machines over the years, and took them both back. They didn’t get the drinks hot enough for me.
I am currently considering taking my machine to get it lubed and cleaned (whatever they do to these machines) in hopes that it will last many more years.
If I were to get a new one, I would but a Gaggia or Miele. I realize the super-automatics don’t make “great” drinks according to some people, but I’ve been very happy with mine.

We had this Miele in our office, and I think every one of us wanted one for home until we learned the price!

One thing to consider is having the milk frother separate. That would allow you to get just what you want for the frother and the coffeemaker without having to find a combo model fitting all your criteria.

You’d want a nicer model, but I have a cheap version similar to this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1R452JX/ref=sspa_dk_detail_0?pd_rd_i=B0D1R452JX&pd_rd_w=WKOHd&content-id=amzn1.sym.8c2f9165-8e93-42a1-8313-73d3809141a2&pf_rd_p=8c2f9165-8e93-42a1-8313-73d3809141a2&pf_rd_r=Z0CQHE662KT7R5KE0KXP&pd_rd_wg=r1b8v&pd_rd_r=0c88990f-4976-4902-8916-31c2cd5a7ea6&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9kZXRhaWw&th=1

We’ve had a Jura Capresso machine and a De’longhi Rivelia in our vacation home. Both work well, but take up a fair amount of counter space. Also, I had difficulty getting the Jura machine repaired. I’ve switched to the Nespresso (Creatista Pro) in both places. I think it’s easy to use and quick and the coffee is good. I buy the pods online and if I run out, my local grocery store sells pods (Peets) that work with my Nespresso.

My son-in-law is a coffee purist and argues that pour over coffee makers (e.g., Chemex) with a filter are the best way to make coffee. He also uses a special grinder (Encore?). That seems like overkill to me and my palate isn’t sophisticated enough to taste the difference. Plus, I want coffee right away and don’t want to wait. SIL used to work for a coffee company and only buys the coffee this company sells. I keep his coffee making supplies (except for the beans) in my pantry and pull them out when the kids visit.

Y’all will not last one morning in the Bunsen house! Mr. B won’t drink anything but instant Folgers! I once bought instant Starbucks, and it did not go well. I gave up and just drink it, too - for speed and simplicity. Maybe when I retire I’ll buy myself a Miele coffee machine. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

I do have a Nespresso machine mostly to use to make coffee for the kids when they come. Coffee snob SIL (makes pour over like @Bromfield2’s SIL) says Nespresso is OK. Folgers - no way!!

I have a moccamaster that I pull out when kids come home. I don’t drink coffee anymore. Kids are happy with it. It keeps the flavor well.

I have a mokkamaster which I use daily. I also have a Nespresso machine that I bought many years ago with my Costco rewards check. The espresso machines look intimidating to me. I keep thinking about learning how to make matcha. I just finished a delicious iced matcha latte with oat milk from a local coffee shop, 6.25 for a mid sized glass. I could have one daily if I wasn’t conscious of the price.

Matcha is easy with good matcha! I love an iced matcha or matcha frappe made at home.

I now buy matcha packets for easy of not measuring - the key (I think) is dissolving the matcha powder before adding the bulk of your liquid.

There is a toddler/preschooler on TikTok who makes lattes and matcha’s. Girl has the process DOWN! I love watching her.
