A few technical things I forgot to mention:

You must attend school more than part-time to receive the full P911 benefit which is considered to be 7 units or more.

You do not receive BAH if you are attending the school remotely more than half-time. For example, if you are taking 12 units, but 7 of them are online classes, then the BAH is prorated appropriately.

Use this link to determine what the approximate amount of BAH your S would receive per month that they are enrolled in school (it is updated every year):
[BAH Calculator](http://www.defensetravel.dod.mil/site/bahCalc.cfm)

Type in the school’s zip code and in the drop down box select “E-5”. A screen should pop up showing a dollar amount for E-5 with DEPENDENTS and E-5 without DEPENDENTS. E-5 with DEPENDENTS is what a veteran should expect to receive as a living stipend while attending school.

And a personal update:
To put that into perspective: THE P911GIB didn’t even exist yet when I had enlisted. I had to pay into the old MGIB system, but about 1/2 thorugh my enlistment the P911 went live - though there have been some slight tweaks a couple years later.
