Digging through business major web sites, it looks like:
- CU Boulder does not require calculus (requires “mathematical analysis in business”): Sample Four-Year Plans | RESOURCES FOR CURRENT STUDENTS | University of Colorado Boulder
- Utah does not require calculus (requires “business mathematics”): https://eccles-wpmedia.s3.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/programs/undergraduate/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Business-Core-2025-2026.pdf
- Missouri requires calculus (business or regular), and those taking business calculus also need to take “finite mathematics”: BSBA in Business Administration | University of Missouri Academic Catalog
Other schools:
- Arizona requires calculus for business majors: Business Management Major | Eller College of Management
- Arizona State requires “brief calculus” and “mathematics for business analysis”: https://degrees.apps.asu.edu/checksheet/2025/CBA/BABUSEXP/null
- New Mexico requires “applications of calculus I”: https://business.unm.edu/current-students/bba/pdf/bba-degree-planner-general-management.pdf
In other words, it is possible that he may be able to avoid calculus as a business major, but that is not assured unless he wants to restrict his choice of colleges significantly and look into whether calculus is required before making his application list. However, even where calculus is not required, other math is likely to be required.
