I have a brown messenger bag for when I want to be a little more stylish, and then I have a black athletic-looking drawstring bag for when I’m feeling more casual. I’d like to get a regular backpack because next year I’ll be biking to campus every day.

I’ve been using the same JanSport backpack since high school. It goes everywhere with me and still works like new.

As for the rolling backpack thing, I’d never carry one, but I don’t see the big deal with them. I’ve only seen one person here with one that wasn’t a professor and she only uses one now because she needs to. Just don’t get a plasticy one.

Use a Man Purse.

“Use a Man Purse.”

It’s a satchel. Indiana Jones wears one.

LL Bean Backpacks are the way to go!

I am always intrigued by how worried people get about backpacks. It seems like a really odd thing to fixate on.

The fact of the matter is that pretty much nobody really cares what backpack you use. If someone does, he or she is probably kind of a jerk. Carry what you like/feel comfortable with. Personally, I’d recommend a traditional on the back backpack because it’s better for your back than a messenger bag (or rolling if you’re confident enough to use one). If you’re stuck where you have a lot of classes with heavy books back to back (happens to me a lot), at least you won’t have to worry about back/shoulder strain.

I second LL Bean. The guarantee is awesome.
