oh, that’s their way of sending “likelies” (but in this case they are actual acceptances). decisions will not officially come out until March 15th.

Don’t know what “likelies” are. Does that mean that it might not be a definitive acceptance? The caller said congratulations and told my grandson that she was offering him a spot in the incoming freshman class, etc. I don’t understand why they would call and say that if it wasn’t an actual acceptance. Have they done this before?
“Likelies” are letters sent out from Ivy league schools before admission to hint at the fact that an applicant is not only admitted but in the top 10% of admitted applicants. Despite their name, they don’t actually indicate that there is a chance the applicant will be rejected; rather, they are an early confirmation of acceptance.
As far as I know, CMU does not send out likely letters, but calling an applicant before decisions come out might be their way of telling a student they were one of the top applicants among the admits.

I don’t think that was a likely. carnegie always calls for acceptances for majors with auditions/portfolios like acting theater art etc and this is around the time they call. one of my friends got the call tonight too

Drexel is officially “by April 1.” Last year it was March 17.
