I saw the OP post in another thread and was wondering how they are doing…

Hi inaslump.

There is potentially a lot of interesting and useful advice in this thread–even if most of it doesn’t seem to strike a chord for you at this point in time. So my first suggestion is to reread and sit with some of these posts. A few additional thoughts:

You’ve made it pretty clear that you didn’t want to go to this particular school right out of HS, but that your parents “wouldn’t hear” of alternatives. So I can’t help but wonder if there’s a little self-fulfilling prophesy going on here. “See, I told you I didn’t want to go here, and it turned out to be awful just like I thought it would; and now my motivation is so low that I’m failing!” Hmmm…

Yes, use counseling and academic support services at your school. It’s hard to imagine that someone with so many AP credits and 5’s on all their AP tests is struggling with ADHD; but depression is a potential issue as you’ve indicated yourself. Trust your instincts: Avoid the drugs but DO get some counseling–and stick with it!. If you’re a shy person, a university/health center counselor can provide you with a valuable sounding board to sort out some of this stuff.

If you need to take some time off to get back in gear, so be it. But if you do decide to stay at your current school…

Talk with your adviser about repeating several of the classes that you failed or got D’s in. This should help you to raise your GPA quickly. It’s important to rack up some successes AND to get your scholarship back.

Also, find one or two activities on campus to really sink your teeth into. You haven’t said much about your interests, but I suspect there is something at you uni that you can get excited about. These humongous schools have some distinct disadvantages, like really large classes and TAs versus prof attention. But they also have more activities and resources than your typical LAC or small state school.

Good luck! And let us know what you decide.

Ah, I didn’t realize the original post was from last month. Hope inaslump has figured a way to get out of it!
