College graduation clothes

PSU graduation. Two ceremonies. I also saw women wearing everything. Lots of nice dresses.

First ceremony, we had 40 mph gusts and did pics outside. My hair looks lovely…NOT…and I chose a top that makes me look fat. Son and his GF look great.

Second ceremony…gorgeous warm sunny day. Lots of pretty sundresses and skirts. One young lady wore a cute sundress with UGGS. Huh? I wore white pants…but pics turned out better this time. Hardly any wind. Son and GF look awesome again in ALL the pics. Oh to be young…

The only thing that threw me in deciding what to wear was the uncertainty about weather. Two of the three ceremohies were outdoors, one in the evening and one starting early in the morning. Originally I was going to wear a dress for the daytime ceremony , but ended up shopping in my closet, when the predicted temperatures for that day were lowered.

To the departmental indoor ceremony I wore a sleeveless dress, a cardigan sweater and had a trench coat to wear outside. For the outdoor events it was supposed to range from low to high 60s, so I figured I’d layer. For the outdoor College ceremony, I wore a tank top under a light weight blazer, ankle pants and low heeled shoes, a linen scarf and the trench coat again. I ended up needing the coat about half way through the evening and the scarf was good to have, as well. For the morning ceremony the next day, I wore another blazer and pants outfit. I’d say that the vast majority of women there were dressed similarly in some kind of jacket or sweater and pants outfit. I imagine if it had been more summery out, you’d have seen a bit more of a variety on the women. Bottom line, dress for the weather, for what you are doing afterwards and for comfort!

my son’s graduation is in about two weeks–and 1100 miles away. the ceremony is held outside no matter what the weather is doing that day. i am trying to slim down the choices so that i can fit everything in one suitcase! that might be tough! we’re going to go almost a week early so we can do some last-minute sightseeing in the area. a few days in boston, a few days for hiking in the mountains, and then all the graduation events. tall order to fit that all in one bag. ok…i might as well relax and plan on taking two bags!

wbow, that sounds like a lot of activities to pack for in one bag.

We drove, so I didn’t have your restrictions. I did, however, have one small suitcase, a dress bag with skirts and dresses, and a very small bag with everything I would need at the hotel along the way, so I could leave the rest in the car. Hiking was not included in my itinerary, but I did pack shoes, pants and shirts to wear in the workout rooms at the hotel.

Did I use that amenity? Nope.

Just wanted you all to know that I got a GREAT white floppy sunhat yesterday at Target. Graduation is outdoors where there is NOT shade. Seemed like a good addition to my graduation garb.
