College health insurance question/coverage

Just reporting back in.

DD IS taking the school offered health insurance. The coverage is better as it is a PPO. Copays are lower, and so is the deductible.

Premiums are about $800 a year less with UHC PPO than her HMO with Ambetter.

And…the biggest thing…this gets her totally out of the ACA in terms of finding a carrier and coverage…until she graduates and hopefully has a job with benefits. She is covered now…policy goes to next July 1. But will be renewed for her final school year at that time.

The end will be the June 2020 which will coincide with her moving on.

Yay!

Every year it’s been a hunt for a policy…she was fine until Anthem pulled out of her area a year ago. She is happy to again have a PPO vs a HMO.

I’m a fan of PPOs too, especially if you have puzzling condition and may want to have more selection and continuity in care. Glad you have good coverage for your student—many student policies provide good coverage for low prices because most students are pretty healthy.
