College Park Scholars

Someone had previously stated that certain scholars programs are more rigorous than others. Could anyone from scholars be able to say which ones are the most and least rigorous?

Since there are so many special programs at Maryland, eg scholars, honors, do other students feel left out?

I think that your placement is based on your answer to the third question for the niche thingy.....I'm sure no one program is harder than the other.

I think the niche answers do help determine program placement but stats aren't irrelevant. The freshman profile breaks down info into all admits, honors and scholars.

My son got into CP but his stats are 1380 SAT and 4.24 gpa (and by now is up a bit). I would think he would have been placed in honors if purely by the stats. What do you think?

I think it is also dependent on your major, our s has the same stats and made scholars, which we are very very proud of him...I guess all of the talks about "do you want to flip burgers for the rest of your life or go to college" actually worked :)

Does anyone know if the housing is particularly nice for CP Scholars?

No, it is particularly old. S lives in the same non-renovated, unairconditioned dorm that my friend did a generation ago.

OTOH, it's nearby the state-of-the-art athletic center if you kid likes to work out and just a quick walk to the Comcast Center for bball games :)

Bulletandpima, I have a question about your first post. You said at the end that the deadline to register for the College Park Scholars is 3/14. Can you tell me where this was written or link me to a webpage because this is the first that i've heard of this deadline. I still need to hear back from all these other colleges i've applied to, (who will notify me AFTER the 14) before making any decision and so this deadline has me panicking.

orchdork-- responding to a living/learning program is not the same as confirming your enrollment to UMD. it just holds your spot in the program if you do decide to attend the school. so you can certainly accept your scholars invitation and wait to hear from your other schools.
