College shut downs/ online classes?

So frustrating! I have to admit that I’m glad Berklee just decided to shut it down for the semester instead of the “wait and see” attitude. I hate uncertainty.
I believe the Roland, and some others (Yamaha is supposed to have some very good ones, from my limited knowledge), has weighted keys…just in case you decide to/have to go that route. Best of luck to you both!

MSM updated on 3/15 in website that after extending spring break, all classes will be online from 3/23 to 5/1 and is currently planning to extend a semester at least 2 weeks until end of May or into June with concerts and lessons. Hope, MSM can pursue this direction for high quality of music performance education. If MSM (950+ students) in NYC can do, some other schools may be able to do.

@compmom I had read the post to which you were referring. I understand that at the time Colgate was concerned about the risk of students traveling during spring break and bringing the virus to campus. I was agreeing with you about what Colgate’s rationale was at that time, although on their website it appears their plans have changed due to new developments and increased understanding on the part of the scientific community. I’m sure these changing plans has happened at a lot of universities and colleges - indeed it has happened at ours.

UConn has cancelled May Commencement as of today

Brigham Young University, Grinnell College, West Texas A&M, Grambling State and the Savannah College of Art and Design have also canceled graduation ceremonies, according to the Associated Press.

UPenn will hold a virtual ceremony. They will look into doing something for the graduates possibly in the fall.

My senior got sad news from Eastman. They are cancelling remaining degree recitals for all but DMA candidates and locking the doors to the school, practice rooms and music library. (With extremely limited exceptions.) She is rocked. Ran over and sang the last verse of the last song planned for her degree recital on the stage at Kodak Hall and sent the teary audio to us. “Goodbye to ESM.”

Oh, @buoyant! I’m so sorry! Not the end to her undergrad experience that she (or anyone) had envisioned. My heart breaks for her. Hoping there’s a way she’ll be able to return to that stage In the near future to finish it on her terms.

Oh, @buoyant, I’m so sorry for such an end to your daughter’s undergrad years. This is all such a sad state of affairs for everyone. I’m still hoping somehow that there’ll be some type of graduation ceremony for them as well as the class of '20 HS seniors.

@buoyant I’m so sorry too. This is very sad. I know that she’ll get through it (they all have to) but it doesn’t make it any less sad. Hang in there and know that we are all thinking about your family.

You guys are too kind! Thank you. She will absolutely get through it and will be more resilient than ever. Thank you for giving me space to be sad for her for a moment. I am so grateful to receive your comforting words. It’s a new day and we have beautiful snow here.

@buoyant I always like the Japanese saying that goes something like: under heavy winter snow the mighty pine bows but does not break. I’ll keep hoping for the positive grad school experience to come.
