RE #15, evidently experiences differ.
I would agree that the Columbia situation is not identically the same as NYU. But , on the other hand, the experience reported to me by the family member of mine who attended as an undergrad was closer to that than to a bucolic campus-centered school. As reported to me, a large part of his discretionary time seemed to be spent in the city, not in or around campus.
And the family member who attended Barnard actually transferred from there in part due to there being no place to hang out. As she experienced it. After freshman year, dorms were not even on campus. And where did everybody go, if they couldn’t hang out right there? They kept taking the subway to the areas around NYU. My family member didn’t like that. Her reported experience at the campus-centered university she attended subsequently was completely different.
There was one thread in particular on the Columbia sub-forum where Columbia students complained about inadequate places to just hang out. I could link it if I wasn’t too lazy.
So again, individual undergraduates there there may have some different experiences in this regard. Evidently. FWIW.
