College Visit Reports - Suggestions

The idea of overviews of the college visits is mildly interesting, but what would really be useful would be a listing of college visit itineraries. There is nothing more difficult than planning out a series of college visits over a 2-10 day period and trying to figure out if you are being too ambitious, or missing a great school just 20 minutes off your path. It is ridiculous that each student & parent team has to “reinvent the wheel” on this one, when so many have gone before. I found some information on tripadvisor.com when I plugged in a few search words like “college visit + chicago” or “college visit + washington d.c.” but it was kind of hit or miss. It would be so great to find out where people stayed, how long it took to get from place to place, can you book info sessions online, when is their spring break, should you try to fit in an interview, does it pay to have a car or is public transportation better in a given city, what is the parking like around the school, what other schools are near, etc.

Of course, this could get really advanced and include the student’s stats, which would make it unbelievably helpful. For example, Harvard and Suffolk University are very close to each other, indeed, but the statistical range of their average applicants is not. It is much more useful to know that Loyola Chicago and DePaul are very close to each other as they have more similar statistical ranges.
