Only one Olin. Not sure if the same is true of St Olaf, as our kids definitely weren’t interested in any St.
Only one Olin College that I know of, but a lot of tech schools have an Olin building.
Isn’t St. Olaf the town in Minnesota where Rose Nyland was born and raised???
University of Washington, thought by some to be in the nation’s capital.
The Carolinas – I went to UNC Chapel Hill and we always got offended when the South Carolina referred to itself as Carolina. I believe they return the favor. They also use USC and get offended when people confuse it with the school in California.
I’m always amused when folks think USoCal is a CA state directional school. I’m sure it must annoy many and surprise folks who are unaware, since things are very different there than most state Us.
USC - University of South Carolina, not the one in LA.
Washington University (in St. Louis) not in WA or DC.
Miami University of Ohio, not the one in Florida.
Ohio University, not OSU.
Babson and WUStL both have an Olin business school, though they are named for different people with surname Olin (the Babson one is named for Franklin W. Olin, same as the standalone school of engineering).
But the Olin’s are all from the same family. The grants were made by the Olin Foundation:
The Loyolas.
The Xaviers.
Who’s Embry and why is his riddle famous?
Actually though, being from Florida, it really sucks they don’t get more recognition.
Embry-Riddle there are two Aeronautical Universities, in FL and Prescott AZ
Many know about the FL one. A friend, retired Col (who attended with ROTC) graduated in CS from the AZ one.
The Prescott campus is amazing. Totally under-the-radar as far as engineering schools go, but they have a fantastic engineering department, and the area is gorgeous.
NEVER confused in Florida. Fightin’ words.
Oh my yes. We have flags in my community, UF and FSU.
Lake Forest College in IL vs. Wake Forest University in NC
One spring several years ago we had to be careful when talking about three U’s. Son, a U of Wisconsin-Madison student was going to do a summer REU at U of Washington-Seattle while a cousin was going to start at Washington U in St Louis in the fall (an older cousin from the other side of the family had left WI for the WA UW years before and stayed- we learned the U-dub bit from him, that helped). With the two UW’s and two Washingtons it got confusing sometimes. Son was outvoted when he wanted his REU T shirt to have the full name instead of just UW that summer. Granted, it was purple instead of red but no one would realize it meant the other UW back in Wisconsin.
Moved to Tampa a few years ago. USF is here while FSU is in Tallahassee. I find that more confusing than the UF/UFS confusion.
