We have power, and also 10 inches of snow here in southern CT. Hoping this doesn’t become a trend.

Congrats HouTxMom!! Maybe our kids will be classmates!

Love hearing the positive news about Elon. When I originally found this thread sometime last Spring, it seemed like this school was getting a lot of buzz. Somehow for this year’s seniors, I don’t seem to be hearing about it as much though.

Keep the good news coming!

Looking forward to Thanksgiving, but worrying about S being drilled by all the family members: Where are you going to college?

Chardo, so sorry about your car. Glad everyone is safe and seems warm. Houston, congrats on your dd’s acceptance!

Great news Houtxmom! I still have my fingers crossed for her for UT if that is still her top choice!

I glad to hear that so many of you have weathered the storm without incident. So sorry to hear about your car Chardo.

Power back on here on Long Island. Then, like Vitrac, delayed opening and snow after week from school! And Monday off for Veteran’s Day!
Fantastic news for the Tulane and Pitt students. I hope the merit money comes through too.

Mazal tov on all the new college acceptances!

Chardo, your insurance company better be nice to you! So, what kind of new car are you thinking of? (need to find a silver lining somewhere!).

Congratulations to all of the latest acceptances! I hope the good news keeps coming.

I haven’t really had anything to post in a while, but we recently toured Lehigh for D2 (junior). I posted this over on the Lehigh board and figured I would post it here, I know Lehigh has come up for discussion on this thread before.

We arrived Sunday night, it was already dark, but D wanted to drive through the campus anyway. Very pretty even in the dark! Then we went and had dinner at Bethlehem Brew Works…very good dinner and were glad we had a chance to see that area of Bethlehem, it was better than I expected…D saw lots of shops that she would be very happy look at more in depth!

Monday we had the info session. The room was way too hot, but other than that, the presentation was good. Lots of good information, the presenter needs a little polishing of her public speaking skills (too many umms, you know, etc.) Then we had the tour. Great tour guide. Campus is very pretty, I would imagine you stay in great shape there, walking up and down the hill. Lots of school spirit and school pride. Different kids shouted “Come to Lehigh” at the tour group and we noticed at least 1 out of 2 kids wearing Lehigh sweatshirts, jackets, etc. That’s a big plus for D she really likes to see school pride.

For lunch we went to the Goose and then we hit the road. Lehigh is on the list to stay…as we do more visits we will see where it falls.

mdmom - nice to see you - it’s been a while. Hope D1 is having a great freshman year. Do keep us posted on the search process for D2. I like hearing about the visits. I have not seen Lehigh in many years. Sounds like the area is improving.

Power is back and things are slowly returning to normal. I totally lucked out with my car. The tree fell with the outer branches landing on the hood. I backed it out and found no damage. A foot or so over and the main trunk would have hit. Lease ends next month anyway, so I was just starting to shop.

On another note, Alabama football lost yesterday, putting a big dent in their national championship hopes. DS posted on Facebook: “Even though we lost, Alabama is still my school and I will always cherish being a member of the Crimson Tide community. Through good times and bad, that’s what being a fan and student is about. We are still going to win the SEC championship and all will be well in T-Town. Roll Tide.” Looks like he has really found his fit.

^^ We really need a “like” button on CC!

Haha I beg to differ. Alabama lost to TAMU which was exciting news in our neck of the woods. My husband texted S2 the minute the game ended. (S is in Atlanta this weekend). My S texted him back, he already knew.

mdmomfrom li,
Fwiw, an anecdotal bump: my DD’s best friend (since the womb) left us this year for Lehigh…and is absolutely positively loving it! The college closed down for Sandy’s fury and she (student) was climbing the walls, itching to return to her new life. She admits that it took her dad’s constant urging and 3 campus visits to fall in love - 1 miserable, rainy day; 1 slushy snow day; 1 fine day in the “Hogwarts” look-alike library - but now she couldn’t be happier.
That said, Lehigh is a very selective school, so may be a reach for a B student. The above was an A student in hs with high 700’s SAT’s…but again, just anecdotal.

Rockville - D1 is absolutely loving college. Everything about it. Social, academics, etc. She called a few weeks after being there and said that she was at the perfect place for her. I think she is a little homesick now. Still loves school, but is missing being at home. Has been at school since mid - August and was only home for a few nights for a very short fall break.
Hope S2 also found the perfect fit for him and is enjoying himself.

LuvMomN8ur - Thanks for the info., great to hear of a happy kid! D2 is more of an A- student than a B student. I think Lehigh is in the match/reach range for her depending on how her ACT scores come in. Looking at our HS Naviance, there really seems to be a breaking point for that.

We are focusing on reach schools (and a few matches) more than anything else in this process only because D2 would be very happy to go to the state flagship and we are pretty confident that she would get in. Every time a safety school comes up the question to her is there or state flagship and state always wins.

Chardo: I’m so glad your car is okay. It’s nice to hear how happy your son is at Alabama. Those football games look very exciting, win or lose.

Spectrum: I thought about your son on Saturday when TAMU upset Alabama.

Mdmom: I’m glad your D1 is so happy with her choice. It’s normal to be a little bit homesick. My D2 loves her school also, but she always looks forward to coming home. I understand how your D2 feels about having the state flagship as her safety. My D1 was in the same boat. It’s actually very nice to have such as affordable, appealing option.

Quick Elon update:

S2 is planning to join/pledge the new AEPi Jewish fraternity that should be starting this spring.

And - he is planning to go on a week long Habitat for Humanity trip that Hillel is leading at the beginning of February.

Jewish life is thriving at Elon and I am so pleased he is participating.

That’s great news, RVM. It sounds like Elon is working out beautifully for your son, the inspiration for this thread.

Just wanted to let you all know my D got accepted yesterday to Penn State. It’s one of her top 4 choices so she’s pretty elated right now. Have to love the speed in which they let her know. Application was sent in on October 26th, status on Friday said she’d hear in the coming days and she heard yesterday.

Great news jaynebe and RVM

congrats to all of the applicants (and their parents) who are the recipients of all this good news!

RVM–I am so glad to see that your son is having such a great experience at Elon. His experience is what all of us want for our children–a good transition to a rewarding academic experience, a happy social experience, and the ability to remain connected Jewishly…and your son is having it all.

I think Elon now matches Muhlenberg as a destination for Jewish students wanting a LAC college experience in a situation where substantial Jewish life is available.
