Colleges for the Jewish "B" student (Part 1)

Great news Vitrac, what a wonderful present. Tonight we had S2 home for candle lighting, what a treat!

Great news Vitrac and also nice to have your son home, Spectrum.

DS got accepted to Northeastern, honors program and merit aid ($20,000). Unclear if that becomes full tuition if he becomes a NMF in Feb. Still a very good night.

Hi everyone,
Just popping in to wish you all a happy Chanukah, enjoy some virtual latkes, schmooze and celebrate all the good news!

Congratulations on the acceptances to Northeastern! What great news!!

Wonderful news on Northeastern… Thanks for sharing with us.

Congrats on Northeastern!

Such great news about the Northeastern acceptances. Mazel tov. A lovely gift for sure.

I am so touched by the comments regarding how difficult it is for Jewish families to be apart from their college kids for holidays. Not moronic at all, really sensitive in fact.

Congratulations Mom24boys!

DS was deferred by his HMFR ED school. I don’t think that’s too bad - the letter said very few applicants were deferred and there were many rejections. Maybe this will help him buckle down for finals next week. Also, in the meantime we’ve discovered many other schools that he’s excited about. And he has several EA schools he’s waiting to hear from.

Hey everyone! Happy Chanukah and mazel tov on all the recent acceptances, woohoo!

Question for all the Northeastern acceptance people: My S2 is currently a h.s. junior and is also possibly looking to apply to Northeastern, except at the moment he has a few others he LOVES. We will be looking at Northeastern over one of the Feb. or April breaks. My question is: right now as a junior his weighted GPA is a 3.7 “only”. Is that enough to apply to Northeastern? I’ve heard they’ve become much more selective…he really LOVES WPI, and that will probably be the school of choice, but need to look at others anyway. Thanks! :)

PS: Vitrac and Linymom and Jozuko: still waiting to hear from you re: acceptances to UMiami!!!

chochipcookie: We are waiting for UM with baited breath too! DS told me today he has a friend who asks him every day if he’s heard. But not till February… doesn’t feel like “early” action right now!

Congrats to all those accepted to Northeastern! Love hearing the great news!

D2 accepted to Michigan and Wisconsin! Still waiting for Miami, Choc! As LinyMom indicated, it’s going to be a long wait.

Regarding Northeastern-it’s hard to predict the gpa a student needs, especially without an SAT or ACT score, rigor of schedule, honors/AP classes, etc. I think they evaluate all that stuff and an “only” 3.7 gpa (crazy!) can be compensated for by a higher SAT or a very challenging schedule.

Vitrac,

Congrats on all the acceptances. You will have great choices. Did your D end up applying to UT?

Socal-Yes D2 applied to UT. She hasn’t heard from them yet.

Though our joy is tempered by our nation’s tragedy, my DD’s very first acceptance arrived yesterday…Clark University, with scholarship $…and on it’s heels, an acceptance to College of Charleston. Crying for the lost babies and crying for my baby…bittersweet.

Congratulations to each and every one of you whose children have received acceptances. I am positively thrilled for you them and for you.

Love and blessings to all.

Vitrac,

I don’t think you will hear until feb. or march…

Luvmom, congrats…

LuvMom - congratulations on the acceptances, such wonderful news. The tragedy in CT is reminding me to count my blessings, love my family and let the small, petty stuff go.
