Cheermom thanks so much. She’s really happy with her decision. She really liked Tulane too but the major she wanted there is an evening major. Good luck with your visit there and let us know what you and your D think!

Leapmom, Towson was discussed quite a bit on this thread early on. You might want to search the thread to see the discussion. (If you can still do that, I haven’t figured out how since the format changed.)

@spectrum2 and @Leapmom, you can use the “search entire site” function at top right of page and put in “Towson Jewish “B”” and that will bring up all of the posts.

It’s great to see all the good news on this thread.

Cheermom: Congrats to your D on all the great choices. Enjoy your visit to Tulane. New Orleans is one of my favorite cities. Make sure you visit the French Quarter and have coffee and beignets at Café du Monde.

Nymom: Congratulations on the Miami decision. Miami has so much to offer, including great academics and great weather.

Leapmom: Towson sounds like a great choice for your D. I was very impressed with Towson when we visited a few years ago. I know lots of Jewish students who are thriving there.

Congrats to all those who have made decisions.

Spectrum2 to search on this thread there is a search to the right next to the page numbers, it works within the thread, they call it “Search Discussion”.

Congratulations on the wonderful decisions! University of Miami and Towson are schools we have covered quite a bit - but it’s always good to get more firsthand reports - so let us know how it goes in the fall.

Thanks for pointing out the search discussion tool - I didn’t realize that was there - very useful.

Cheermom, congratulations on Tulane, my D1 is a junior there and adores it!
NYMom, congratulations! My D2 is SO happy at Miami!

I am very impressed with both schools and although I miss my D’s, I am fortunate that I have two great places to visit. If either of you have any questions feel free to ask me here or PM me.

Mazel Tov on all the wonderful acceptances. D2 was accepted at all her safeties, some with some very nice merit awards, which was very nice! She has also been accepted to our state flagship as a direct admit to the business school. We are all thrilled with that. Over the next few weeks she should hear from her reaches. But the state flagship was her first choice all along and I don’t know if that will even change with an acceptance to a reach school.

I will be happy when the decision is made and I can move onto dorm shopping!

Congrats mdmomfromli! I could be way off the mark but I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess that there’s a Smith School of Business in your future?!

Mumof2–Appreciate your guidance and will try not to overdo the PMs full of Tulane questions!

Mdmom: Congrats on your D’s acceptances! A direct admit to Maryland’s business school is a great achievement. She must feel great to have an acceptance to her first choice.

As we await decissions I am finding myself stocking the various forums. Despite the forum name, reading over some of the posts it looks like this forum is more pluralistic (not just B students but all Jewish students). I was looking for info on UMiami (Florida) and reading over the posts it looks like he would fit in well there - No word yet if he is in or not but this is at the top of his list. Anybody know what the vibe is like at Northwestern?
He got into Brandeis yesterday and this is a great option if others say no.

Yes, it’s UMD Smith Business School. Thrilled with the direct admit, apparently pretty hard to get.

Cluelessbass - I have been on this thread pretty much since Rockvillemom started it for her S2. My D1 and her S2 were applying at the same time. Neither of my D’s are B students, but this thread has been invaluable in providing support, guidance on Jewish life and finding those all important safety and match schools. It really has expanded to be the “Jewish” student thread, with an emphasis on the “B” admission schools. Whether those schools are the safety, target or reaches for the individual student.

After visiting Northwestern, I would say that the vibe is very intellectual, kids with double or triple majors and minors. Congrats on Brandeis.

momjr–Thanks for your good wishes!

clueless - Congrats on Brandeis and welcome to the thread!

mdmomfromli - Ahh yay! Extra happy for you now! My D got direct admit to Psychology but sadly, UMD has slipped to 3rd or 4th on her list. :(

Any one consider Mercer University? Would my secular Jewish daughter feel comfortable there?

Congratulations on all the great acceptances! and welcome cluelessbass.
Krunky, as far as I know, Mercer has not been discussed on this thread and I would be concerned your daughter would feel isolated there. Post more info about your daughter and others might be able to suggest colleges that would fit her. In the region you are considering, there is Oxford of Emory, U. Alabama, College of Charleston, that do have larger Jewish populations. Another possibility if she is willing to consider it is Agnes Scott, a woman’s college in Atlanta that has access to some classes at GA tech and Emory- and may have either Jewish students or access to activities where she could meet others.

mdmom - congrats on UMD! Exciting news.

We just found out today that S2 is going on Birthright in May. Now I have to search this thread for all of those helpful tips!

Thank you Pennylane, I don’t think she would be comfortable if she were that much of minority. We are going to look at University of Richmond, Elon, Wake Forest, High Point and Furman. She is very social, intellectually curious but the effort she puts in ( a lot) doesn’t always yield high scores. We don’t have her SAT or ACT numbers yet. Her GPA is 3.5 unweighted. Then we are going to explore higher north and east, Babson, Emerson, Dickenson, Connecticut College. The cultural thing won’t be as big of an issue in that region.

@krunky - have you and your D visited Mercer?

Does she otherwise feel it is the right fit for her?

Krunky- from your list, and the colleges discussed on this thread, the southern choices that have Jewish populations include: Richmond, Elon, Wake Forest ( a little smaller).

As far as I know, Furman previously didn’t have a Hillel, but I think one is starting.

http://edge.furman.edu/wasserman-named-furman-rabbi.html

The city of Greenville SC has a significant Jewish population for a smaller southern city, and there is a statue of the founding mayor, who was Jewish, downtown.

http://library.furman.edu/specialcollections/southcarolina/heller_biography.htm

Furman has not been on the radar of this thread, but perhaps it will be as the Hillel grows. It would be great to have it as an option- it’s a good school and the campus is beautiful.

In your region of interest, also consider College of Charleston. Goucher is popular on this thread. High Point has a questionable reputation in the region, but other NC colleges that have been discussed here are Appalachian State U, and Guilford College.
