I agree with @PikachuRocks15 's recommendations: Rochester is medium sized, good for engineering, and has a reputation for having a serious, slightly nerdy student body (in a good way). It offers a scholarship for LGBTQ students as well as scholarships based on academic merit. SImilar is Case Western - strong for engineering, has an impressive maker space, students are serious and work hard. More intense than quirky, if you’re looking for that Swarthmore vibe. Case Western has become more competitive for admissions in recent years; demonstrated interest is very important.
WWU also mentioned above is a very nice school. When we toured several years ago, student guides introduced themselves with pronouns, which was less common then than now. Per WWU’s website, WUE discount tends to go to top 25% of OOS students from consortium states.
