Colleges similar to USC? Southern California

Honestly it’s been pretty safe. Just don’t do anything stupid. My kid goes here frequently because of her work.

Rjkofnovi obviously has an animus toward USC and I’m not sure why, other than perhaps he was rejected.

what a waste of time to stay bitter about what can’t be changed…

I think it’s the US news ranking. Michigan is a great school but somehow it’s not doing as well as USC in the ranking.

“and there haven’t been more [violent] deaths in Harlem . . . in the last three years?” (#59)

An ABC News online article, “Worst US Neighborhoods for Violent Crime,” states that even the worst neighborhood within Harlem is “‘nowhere near close to qualifying’” as one of America’s most violent.

I didn’t think the area surrounding USC was THAT dangerous? Is it?

no. The area east of campus is not as “nice” an area as the area north of campus, and I dont believe it is patroled by as often by the USC police as the area north of campus, whcih is also on the USC shuttle route.
But as always in an urban setting, one has to be aware of ones surroundings.

The area immediately surrounding the campus is fine. Once you get five or six blocks away to the north and east, you start seeing houses with bars over the windows. (I’ve seen the same type of neighborhoods near lots of universities.) There’s nothing to the east of the campus except light industrial and warehouses. Just to the south are a bunch of museums (including the Space Shuttle Endeavour) and the Coliseum.

People always exaggerate how dangerous various places are, especially when they’ve never actually been there.

@menloparkmom @simba9 thanks! :slight_smile:

I should have said north and west.
