Colleges/Universities near the Ocean

Several HOURS to commute from NYC to NJ beaches.

The University of Rhode Island is about a 10-15 min drive to the beautiful beaches.

The U of Miami isn’t actually close to the beach, certainly not a bike ride away, it is in Coral Gables a suburb of Miami and you need to drive across the bridge to get to South Beach.

But check Charleston Southern in SC.

College of the Atlantic, off the coast of Maine:

University of Tampa, University of South Florida (in Tampa), University of North Florida (in Jacksonville), New College of Florida (Sarasota).

University of Washington is right near the Puget Sound, as well as practically on Lake Washington, although you’d be pretty short on good beach weather

University of New England

Endicott College [this one impressed me but no grad school :(]

Students often select undergraduate schools with an eye toward their favored pastimes or settings, but grad school is all about focus in a particular field that will direct your career. You need to find a program and advisor who meet your academic and career needs, and deal with the more peripheral aspects of the campus for a couple years.

UC San Diego is near the ocean, but it’s a good 5-10 minutes to an actual beach.

UC Irvine is not near the beach. If you count Irvine you also have to count UCLA. :)
