Colleges with best/worst names

<p>I love Syracuse, Old Dominion and Johns Hopkins. Not in the US, but London School of Economics sounds awwwesome. Not so hot on Pepperdine, Wake Forest, Sewanee, Embry Riddle or any of the CUNY/SUNYs – those acronyms bother me.</p>

<p>I think Tulsa sounds bad.</p>

<p>I like the sound of Princeton, Haverford, Bryn Mawr, Swarthmore, Claremont McKenna, Amherst, Vassar.</p>

<p>I’m not crazy about Wesleyan, Miami University, Washington University in St. Louis, Catholic University, Bard, Skidmore.</p>

<p>Best names: Swarthmore, Haverford, Hamilton, Quinnipiac, Pomona, Harvey Mudd, and Oberlin.</p>

<p>Worst names: Seton Hall, Rider, Case Western Reserve, and NJIT.</p>

<p>What’s wrong with Wake Forest? When I went there, I knew several people who’d applied specifically because they liked the name (usually internationals).</p>

<p>I’m glad Villa Julie College changed its name. Julie’s House is where you’d go to play, not where you’d go to college.</p>

Worst: Temple, Holy Cross, all state school names, Kalamazoo, Pomona, Clemson (sounds like an STD), Colgate, Appalachian State (pretty sure that’s the name), _____ State University (makes me instantly assume it’s worse than U of _____)</p>

<p>Add Bryn Mawr and Mt. Holyoke to worst. Sound like locales from horror movies.</p>

<p>Vanderbilt is by far the best while Yale, Duke, and Georgetown are solid names.</p>

<p>And you gotta love Penn State’s Town: Happy Valley</p>

<p>Wesleyan is a good school, but Wesley just doesnt make a good adjective…</p>

<p>Skidmore sounds like school for stunt drivers</p>

<p>Colgate prolly has a good predental program, not to mention that it’s sponsored by a toothpaste company</p>

<p>Case Western Reserve is pretty bad…wordy</p>

<p>MIT and Caltech are good</p>

<p>UPenn is not an ugly name, just makes it sound like a public school</p>
