Colleges with best/worst names

Cuse, Duke is one of the best? Seriously?

Anyways, I actually don’t mind Johns Hopkins… I like Emory… I really, for some reason, like saying Amherst a lot. I know, so random. Also love Pomona.

I really like Pepperdine and Princeton.
Not really into Creighton, Ball State and Dartmouth.

Also, nicest Pomona and one of the worst - Purdue. Makes me think of chicken!

Worst:
Rice
Lafayette

Yeah, at school we call Rice “Arroz!” and make up a college near by names “Beans”.

Also Bowdoin.

Favorite sounding ones are always simple names like Williams or Smith. Nothing complicated.

There’s a college in Little Rock called Philander Smith. I know it’s named for a man who had that given name, but philandering is a male having an extramarital affair. And a smith is one who initiates or fabricates something. So wouldn’t a “philandersmith” be a . . . ? Hmmmm.

My favorite names are:

Princeton
Duke
Vanderbilt
Georgetown
Columbia

Worst:

Washington University in St. Louis (seriously? Could you add more syllables?)
University of Pennsylvania (confusing. Penn State?)
Harvey Mudd (makes me think of mud)
Colgate (even the toothpaste outdoes the brand of a college?)
The Ohio State University (why would you start the name of your school with “The?” It looks really pretentious when people abbreviate “OSU” as “TOSU” lol).

Dartmouth, Stony Brook, Princeton, Vanderbilt, Rensselaer

Carnegie Mellon, Macaulay (funny those 2 are my top colleges), Colgate

I really like the name St. Cloud.
Vanderbilt, Tulane, and Pomona sound nice.
For initials (if they aren’t acronyms, not sure what the proper term would be), I think UCLA and TCNJ sound cool.

Butte College is a pretty unfortunate name. And Carnegie Mellon makes me think of the fruit.

College of Wooster is the worst name.

Best: Princeton, Villanova
Worst: Colgate, Tufts, Yale, Swarthmore, Carnegie Mellon

Princeton kind of sounds snobbish to me… I kind of like Yale… its unique… Carnegie Mellon’s unique too so I like it… but seriously, the worst is Ball State… I think that’s indisputable.

The worst is absolutely Oral Roberts

Caltech and MIT sound exactly like they should, no mistake about it

Yale and Princeton sound like ivy league names

Stanford sounds like an ivy league west

Brown sounds like a color

Pepperdine sounds like some type of candy

Colgate sounds like a tootpaste

Rice sounds like some type of food

Smith, Davidson and Williams sound like last names of people

College of William and Mary sounds very strange, maybe for couples to attend school together.

Harvey Mudd sounds like the name of an uncle or similar

Bowdoin - still don’t know what it sounds like

Wake Forest sounds like the name of a cake

lynchburg college

This is what i think:

Harvard - best name ever. it just sticks into your mind right away… thats why it will remain on the top forever

Yale - also a good name… i mean just think about it… I go to Yale… how cool is that??

Princeton - omg… only one word to describe the name… beautiful…

Columbia - King. Thats what comes into my mind right away. People say its mistaken with a country but thats one of the most stupid things I ever heard… Columbia is King… King of NYC the center of the world

Duke - This is another fantastic name… i mean just imagine yourself walking around town with a hoodie that says “DUKE”… now that is legit

Stanford - Another respected name… i think this is one of the first names that comes into your mind when you see the word ‘college’… amazing… absolutely amazing

UC Berkeley - Satisfactory. I sometimes wish it didn’t have the C… just U of Berkeley

UCLA - i pronounce it as ‘ookla’ just for fun… but anyways yeah another respected name

USC - acronym but ok name i guess… but you gotta admit USC Trojan sounds awesome…

Vanderbilt - legit

UPenn - satisfactory. but wharton is legit

Cornell - cornell is falling back these days… but still when you say your a CORNELL student you earn respect

UVA - university of virgin - ia

U of Chicago - too good…

Carnegie Mellon - simply amazing… people laugh at the mellon part but I still think its legit

MIT - sounds just right

Johns Hopkins - amazing as well… just imagine going to someone’s facebook profile and you see “Johns Hopkins '10” and anyone would go gasp

Northwestern, Northeastern - ridiculous… who names a university after a compass direction???

Colgate - i lol’ed

Rice - i lol’ed

LMU and all the other Loyolas - disappointing…

Emory - okay I know quite a lot of you would disagree with me… but I have no idea why but emory sounds like a women’s college…

Swarthmore - I didn’t know this existed until my friend got in and i lol’ed

College of William and Mary - i ■■■■■’ed

Lehigh - I don’t know why but it sounds funny…

maybe it’s me, but i don’t really like the most of the top LAC names.
Williams sounds too plain, average. undistinguishable.
Amherst sounds a bit better.
Bates? plain.
Bowdoin? sounds like its in montana or something

besides them i really like swarthmore, vassar, reed. they all sound dignified.

as for regular universities

Worst acronyms: UF (switch it around and you get FU!!)
Best: Vanderbilt, Dartmouth, Duke, Harvard, Princeton

im sure someone has said this already…but the abreviation for Fordham University is FU. haha.

“nice sounding:
