Colleges your child crossed off the list after visiting, schools that moved up on the list. Why? (NO REPLIES)

  1. University of Puget Sound — UP for my D28 as well. Kids were mostly on a MA trip, but stopped here on the way home because it was easy to visit while staying with Seattle relatives. She said she hadn’t really thought much about it and had thrown it on the visit list because it was in an easy location and had a high acceptance rate, but was surprised to really like it. After visiting, she was telling me that she didn’t like calling a place like that a “safety” school, because it implies she’d only go as a last resort. I agreed with her that the terminology is flawed and does seem to imply a kid wouldn’t want to go there.

  2. Amherst – DOWN and out for both D27 and D28. Neither was super excited in any case, but the open curriculum was appealing, and D28 wanted to visit the women’s colleges nearby (which she did like). D28 described Amherst as “too sporty and too snobby”
