Recommendations (rating 1-10, details):

Teacher Rec #1: biology teacher-definitely excellent
Teacher Rec #2: english teacher-excellent
Counselor Rec: She knows my name without looking it up (no small thing in my big school) and really likes me.
Additional Rec: research professor-extremely strong
Interview: Only 20 minutes long, but she went to my high school three years before I did and we had a nice chat. We both have an interest in the same semi-obscure subject and sort of bonded over that.

Intended Major: French/linguistics but a premed student
State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: large public that sends ~3 students to Columbia every year

Gender: female
Income Bracket: too much to get a significant amount of financial aid
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): nothing?

Reflection

Strengths: Essays? Recs?
Weaknesses: extracurriculars/awards for sure
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: my research professor’s letter was so good that I was asked to confirm that I wasn’t a grad school applicant. Tbh it was probably that letter that got me in. Everything else about me is generic.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: MIT (deferred lol)

General Comments:
I actually don’t know why I got in. I feel very unworthy haha. Columbia has been my dream school for as long as I can remember, and I have longed to move to NYC since I was about 5 years old. I am beyond ecstatic. I look forward to meeting everyone next fall!
