Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

@ajr0415 While many people think it’s just the scores, like you said, the essay and subjective application does surprisingly count! Also it’s like a college application so URM’s (Black, Hispanic, etc.) will have a higher chance of getting in, just not as heavily weighted as it is in college.

@AssassinKhajit I really hope Armenian Heritage classifies as URM…

Errr, you’re like me :frowning: I’m from the Middle East but unfortunately that’s just classified as White :stuck_out_tongue:

One of the most screwed college applications is also a poor white person.

@Cwizkid You got a fair amount of chance, your math score might be a bit low compared to everyone else on this thread, but you also have a decent high science score for a freshman.

@ajr0415 I believe the results come out on June 17th 2015.

How do people know their scores already?

@ViolaMom12 The people in this thread actually don’t know their scores, they are guessing by how good they think on the exam. Once we get our results on June 17, we don’t actually receive the scores we got on the SHP exam.

that was bad English, what I mean is that we don’t really know what we got, it’s just a reasonable prediction.

@MathLeague Yeah, I’ve been wondering why people have been boasting scores based on how many they think they got right when in fact our scores will probably be 10-20% lower…

Yeah, that’s why I am automatically taking of 1-2 points on math and 5-6 on science.(That’s what the range is for)

Yeah, I know right, just yeah.

Lol, I am so nervous though. Just a week left. Does anyone know what time on the 17th that the results come out?

If only I could stop being so Asian. Also got perfect math (at least challenge math) score last year and was rejected. And I know people who only answered 7-8 challenge math who were accepted. Worst thing is that I got 1 challenge math wrong this year. No chance? Probably :stuck_out_tongue:

^^ I don’t think Columbia SHP cares at all about you being Asian. In fact, the majority of kids in the program are Asian. Have some confidence in yourself and good things will happen.

I agree, it could be like I mentioned earlier the rest of your app–recs, grades, courses, essay. While most people focus on the exam, it’s not 100%. It’s probably around 70% exam 30% rest of your application (please don’t quote these numbers I have nothing to do with Columbia lol)

Well, I know someone who didn’t write an essay who got in. That blank space must have said a lot. :stuck_out_tongue:

Well at least he did not pass the word limit! But I hope that science doesn’t count for much. BTW, what grade are you in @Frigidcold

@lequalSmart 10th, posted a bunch earlier this thread. :stuck_out_tongue:

You Asians are so pessimistic. I’m Asian too but I always try to stay on the optimistic side. Pray to god, stay happy, and hope for the best for the next 3 days. If you don’t make it in there is always next year… sorry for the Juniors/upcoming seniors.

Does anyone know how they announce it? Do they post it in the message part of the application or send an email?

@ViolaMom12 They will send an email that decisions are out, then you have to log into the application to see your results.

@MathLeague There are reasons to be pessimistic.
