Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Yeah, Thats true. I just really want to get in to this program. I Guss all we can do is wait.

Omg results are going out on jun 23rd! Im so freaked out! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! :(

OMG almost a week left!!! :I

@JHU Girl, i am freaking out…i hope i did well..im a freshman, but do you think i have a good chance? plz tell me! im so scared, im gonna like pray before i open that envelope!..and do we GET the letters on june 23rd, or do they send em out on june 23rd?

Haha Im just going to be glued to this thread from the 20th till I get my results. Cant wait.

@wongtongtong, SAME HERE! LOL! IM GLUED TO THE THREAD LIKE FROM NOW TILL 23RD! YIKES! :(

For you freshmen freaking out, I didn’t get in freshman year either but I got in sophomore year :). You can ALWAYS try again. I even have friends took the test for the first time this year (junior year).

PS. For those who get in, Ollie’s is like the best Chinese food ever lol.

@rainbowrose, WISH ME ALL THE LUCK IN THE ENTIRE UNIVERSE! lol…i rly want to get into this program! :x

@desigirl I’m sure you have a great chance of getting in, considering it seems like you care so much about it.

Keep in mind, however, if you don’t, it’s not the end of the world. It’s pretty much a resume builder and an excuse to go into the city. It’s definitely a fun program and I’ve learned a few nice things, but I wouldn’t say I’ve gained any life-shattering experience from it. It’s just another fun, selective program and once you get there, you’re just taught by graduate students and the class isn’t really THAT serious (except maybe organic chem because that’s a really popular one).

I will admit though, I’ve had the opportunity for some nice perks. I was allowed to get free tickets to something at the World Science Festival  but I didn’t take them since it was my last weekend before finals started.

Good luck to all!

@rainbowrose, thank you very much! hope i get in like u sed! just 11 more days! (hyperventilation!)

Trust me, it’s not worth hyperventilation! It’s just another fun thing to do if you’re interested in science and/or math.

@rainbowrose, do we get notification by EMAIL or mail?

Im just hoping to get in so I have an excuse to chill in NYC lol, the program is like a bonus  . also, orgo might be fun :o

I really really really ect… hope i get in. And desigirl, i guess you’re not the only freshman freaking out. I know its only our first year, but it just feels better if we get in the first year, as freshmen, right? I feel the same way. Good Luck Everyone!!!

Ah, you guys are lucky, you still have 2 chances to get in if you dont get in this time. Im a junior so this is my first and last try.

Aww its okay, you still have alot of intelligence, in the scientce and math sense

@desigirl I’m pretty sure I only got a letter mailed to me although I’ve gotten a couple emails from Allan Blaer throughout the year about cancellations and special events and things (but I think if you found out THEN you’d already have been kicked out for too many absences :P).

Would they care if you just sat in the back and didnt do anything the whole year?

@WongTongTong they really wouldn’t. In my Genetics of Bacteriology (it was called something like that) there were kids who played with the bunsen burners half the time and then in the lecture class I’m taking now probably 75-80% of the people pay attention at least part of the time but I don’t think a single person (MAYBE ONE) pays attention the entire time out of ~20 kids.

^All right chill. The main reason that we did that was because the class wasn’t as in depth as we would have liked. We already do basic genetic research under this program called Waksman and thought that the class would be more in-depth than inducing basic transformation, conjugation, and transposition and etc. in bacteria.

Although the experimental classes are undeniably more fun and hands-on, I would advise against taking it if you already have background in the experimental topics, as you’ll end up bored while a lecture class on completely new material would teach you a lot more.
