Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Im taking the test tomorrow, hopefully i get in, i really love science, but i havent taken physics nor chem yet ive only taken physical science an bio, and as for math…im in alg 2!!! But im pretty good at general science, so…any motivational pep talks??

What did you guys get for the last problem on challenge math? I think I aced the easy math, 45/75 on the science (EPIC FAIL -___-), and I got 13-14 on the challenge math. Do I have ANY chance whatsoever to get into the program. :'(

i got 47/50 in easy cuz i didnt finish idk what on the science and i got 13/15 on the challenge------ can we talk abou the awnsers to the challenge math so i know if i did get them right?

yea can we??? right? everyone already took it lol

For the last challenge math question I got A, which is 2, but it seems too simple… The question said that in a race there are racers A, B, and C. The distance between A and B is 2. The distance between A and C is 4. If they run at constant speeds, what is the distance between B and C? Somebody said that 2 is wrong, what did you guys get?

The challenge section was pretty easy from what I expected. Only number 14 was poorly worded so I had to read it like 10 times.

For the last one, I got 2.5 because you do 8x=10y and 10y=6z (x-first y-second z-third)
8y=6z
4y=3z
2.5(4y)=2.5(3z)
10y=7.5z

so when the second one crosses the finish line, or does 10 miles…

Also, how do you know what you got?

For the last problem on the back I got b, which was 2.25. My questions are:

 1. How many of the statements on the card were false?

2) Also with a possible ~55/75 on science, a 48/50 on the first math part, and an 11-13 on the challenge, do I have a chance?

Thanks for any feedback.

For your first question, I got 3 were false because that would mean only one is true, the one where it says three of these statements are false. I don’t think it can be anything else because they would lead to contradictory statements.

as for #2, I’m not sure as it’s the first time I’m taking it myself. Although I think I have 49-50 possible on math, 60-67 on science, and 15 on the challenge if I didn’t make any silly mistakes.

@masterofpuppets

i do not think 2 was the correct awnser i put 2.5 after doing some calculations with the distance formula , that being said it might be 2 aswell.

i also heard somewhere if u get above a certain number right on the callenge math ur automatically in , is this true an if so what is the “magic number”

I got 12-13 on math, 45-47 on easy math, and probably 62-64 on science. I hated the science, im in ap physics b and i had no clue about most of the questions on earth science and bio… The challenge math was easy although i made a silly mistake on 15 and 14 was worded very poorly. Im confident i got at least 11 right, does that mean im in?

it was 2.5

I found it by finding the rates of each individual runner keeping time as a constant.
You find that for every mile, runner 2 gets .25 miles ahead.
You multiply that by two, because he has two miles to go, and add it the the 2 miles at which he was already ahead, so you get 2.5 miles.

Did anyone else think that science was generally easy and math was hard :frowning: lol

I think I got 14 on challenge math… I compared with some people after the test.
But I epic failed the science part.

Okay, so then i got 50/50, 45/75, 13/15… Do i still have a chance…? x___x

yea im pretty sure i got 50/50, 72/75, and 14/15

can someone awnser my question about the challene math: does a certain amount gaurentee your in?

@pokemonwhite,

I heard last year that 11 is pretty much in, but I’m not sure how accurate this number is.

did anyone get 16/3 for one of the questions? lol

I don’t think so because the challenge math section was pretty easy. I barely made the AIME this year with a 120 on the AMC 10B, and I finished it in 30 minutes. There will probably be a lot of people that get full score on it.
