and just to prove my pt, on a few joe smos, just take 10 ppl who claim they turned down certain schools, you are bound to see that at least half of them lie and change their stats depending on the post and under the thread they post on. I think I am probably leaving College Confidential for real b/c I am so sick of the lying and fake b.s. that occurs on this site. It was enjoyable and entertaining for a while, but I had enough of the crap that goes on. A lot of false info is being given out and this board only encourages kids to go to the most prestigious places, which is really too unfortunate.

Im not basing my opinion of prestige on USN&WR at all. Have you read the NBER revealed preference rankings?

http://post.economics.harvard.edu/faculty/hoxby/papers/revealedprefranking.pdf

Columbia ranks 8th. Cornell ranks 15th.

Preference ranking doesnât mean much. First, more and more kids every year base their decisions on USNWR which affects the study you linked to. Second, there are a couple rankings (didnât save the links , sorry) that place Cornell above Columbia. Third, youâre missing the point of what I said and donât derail the thread with some prestige debate because thatâs not the point of the OPâs question.

Amen to that, collegekid. As far as I can tell, concepts such as âHYPâ etc. donât even exist outside of this website, and the insistent prestige drivel here is enough to make anyone desire a sanity break.

This thread is the nth time someone has asked, âWhich university is better?â, and I can tell you conclusively that no matter which two you are comparing, the answer is, quite simply, âYesâ.

There are no preference rankings that rank Cornell above Columbia. Moreover, from a purely statistical standpoint, Columbia is much more selective than Cornell.

That said, if you are interested in engineering, Cornell is by far the better pick.

âThere are no preference rankings that rank Columbia above Duke. Moreover, from a purely statistical standpoint, Duke is much more cooler than Cornell.â

I canât help but agree. :)

haha jk

Duke is a cool school. . .

I probably would have considered Duke in selecting colleges if I didnât live in Upstate NY. . . .I was trying to find a school within about 4 of home. Cornell is like 3.5 hours. . .Duke would be more like 15 or more.

For the northeast Cornell is pretty cool though!!

Most definitely.

I think cornell has a better looking campus than Columbia
