Not getting political here… just wondering what the protests at Columbia will do to admissions. Decision day is just 8 days away. Again not a side on this just thinking about how these things affect the appetitive for acceptances.

I don’t think they’ll affect decisions much since Columbia has a long history of protests and political ‘currents’ clashing on campus (Vietnam War, apartheid…)

i know people usually get off the waitlist after may 1st, but was just curious if anyone’s heard anything yet? or if columbia has started reaching out to people?

i don’t think they will know for sure until at least may 1, aka enrollment deadline. at least, because they also offer enrollment deadline extensions for those impacted by FAFSA changes or waiting for financial aid appeal decisions, and there is also may 15 as a deadline to defer enrollment. so unless they have received a substantial number of offer declines already, i don’t think there is anything they know or are allowed to tell us
There is no point of getting anxious about when they will decide. Columbia will just take their pace to determine. The ball is on their hand and all we have is a lottery ticket. How they draw the number and figure out the winner is a mystery. And most importantly, it may change year over year. So the best is just to wait. Prepare to go to your current choice and hope for the best.
Hey guys – just as an update, according to @tineocollegeprep at least 3 have been plucked off so far. Not sure when but assuming within the past week. We shouldn’t gain too much hope here but it’s interesting they’ve already started taking people off!

Do you know what percent of waitlisted students actually accept there spot? And how many of these wrote LOCIs? And how many kids have been accepted off of the waitlist in previous years? Guesses??
i checked last years’ threads, and it seems that waitlist acceptances were released in waves on Fridays. do you guys think they are going to keep up with that pattern this year?

Last year, from what I can tell, the first wave was the Friday before May 15 --so May 12. But they are saying May 15 to June 30 in all official correspondence.

Nothing yet today! Anyone? I’m assuming from the previous thread it would start next Friday. Checked it like a million times today. I’m not sure if the issue that’s going on with protests would delay anything this year. Thoughts ?!

How will they alert us of the waitlists? In the portal or by phone calls?
They send a notification to your email saying that there is an update on your portal
