Common Abbreviations in the Music Major Area

Twas the least I could do.

N8Ma - for the record, that’s my favorite joke.

I have two sons. I’m used to ignoring the noisy boys.

Yes, I really like that one too. Because no major composer before Beethoven had previously used voices in an orchestral symphony, the audience must have found it hilarious at the first performance when the baritone soloist came in out of nowhere, started reproving the orchestra for making such a cacaphony at the start of the fourth movement and demanding that they play something better. One of the classic uses of self-deprecating humor in all of music history.

Or did you mean that other joke with the choral basses tying string around the conductor’s score so they would have time to go drinking? That one was funny too.

Hmm, I never thought of Ode to Joy as a joke before.

I would very much like to tie this into an abbreviation to bring the thread full circle, but I can’t think of one. Perhaps NDT = Nicht diese Töne! - get off the rabbit trail. :)

Not wanting to go an entire page without at least one post on topic:

I have been trying forever to figure out what DS, DW, DH, DD stood for. I got the SWHD, but couldn’t for the life of me get what the leading D was for!! About once a month or so I do a search to see if someone put up a CC abbreviations or acronym listing - so glad I ran across this today.

Thanks!

I second. Newish here, and this is a real relief! Thanks for being inclusive for us newbies. It feels so welcoming  (I’m home with a cold, so finally have time to follow up on these amazing, and extensive, threads!)

Okay. I thought I was good. But I have no clue what SWHD means. Single White Hair Dresser? So What He Did? School Without Heavy Doors? Soprano with Hearing Disorder?

Oh. Wait. Son. Wife. Husband. Daughter.

Nevermind…

Binx - I was on a business call and when I read your reply and got laughing so hard I had to mute it (no way to even try and explain it) ! Sorry…I’m just as bad, huh :-)

Added a couple from a current thread that might have caused a bit of head scratching, plus a few more.
