<p>Every hobby has their obsessives - it just so happens gaming is a lot more prevalent and accessible so there’s more nutty gamers. Observation bias. I would argue the much more common college student who drinks every other day is far more destructive on an individual and societal level. I used to game quite a bit at NYU, and almost everyone I played with is successful and leading very active lives. The manic, anti-social gamer isn’t a myth, but it’s also far from common (and usually shunned as much in game as out).</p>
