<p>Chicago students can be quite wealthy. Half of students are on financial aid, half are NOT… when you realize that half of the students here can comfortably pay 50 grand a year, you can do the math and also conclude that there are probably a lot of “trust fund babies” here too.</p>
<p>However, it’s against campus culture to display this wealth… so you would have no idea who is proverbially rollin’ in the dough and who is hard up for cash. I happen to be a “trust fund baby” even though I don’t particularly look like one… my cell phone, ipod, and wardrobe cost far less than some of my friends’ who are on financial aid. At the same time, though, I don’t have a job and my friends must wonder how I get to see so many concerts and go out to dinner so often.</p>
<p>I mentioned in another thread that as a wealthy person, I’ve experienced a little bit of resentment coming from friends and peers directed at “rich people,” so if anything, I’m even more aware of acting tastefully.</p>
