Courses may be of varying “size”. Some courses are 3 credit hours, others are 4 credit hours, and still others are (less frequently) other numbers of credit hours (like 1, 2, or 5 credit hours).

At most schools using this method of counting credits, most courses are 3 or 4 credit hours. The course catalog will show what credit hours each course is.

The nominal workload is that 1 credit hour = 3 hours per week of work in and out of class, with usually around 1 hour in class. So a 15 credit hour course load is supposed to mean about 15 hours of class time and 30 hours of out of class time on school work.
