Confused-What is the difference between TAG and IGETC?

SockherMom the IGETC was developed in response to a state law requiring among other things a “common core curriculum” for transfer and fulfillment of lower division breadth requirements at UC and CSU campuses. The policies of IGETC therefore are established at state-level, not by the individual CA community college (CCC).

One of the main purposes for creating the IGETC was to make it easier for students to transfer and to eliminate duplicate coursework in order that the different segments of the state’s higher education system would operate more efficiently (meaning CCC, CSU, UC campuses). So no, it does not make sense that the CCC is requiring your daughter to retake a course (courses?) that she already completed.

You said in an earlier post the CCC requires IGETC courses completed only at CCC - is that correct? That is not true - did they put this in writing?

You also said the counselor discouraged your daughter from petitioning for credit of previously completed coursework. Again curious if they put this in writing - what exactly did the counselor say?

The CCC does have to certify the IGETC, but there is no reason she can’t apply some coursework from SFSU or CSU provided it is essentially the same course content as the CCC class.

Please let me know if you need further resources - good luck to your daughter!
