ah ha! i think i have finally figured out this whole caq/study permit business. we do fit under ‘option 3’ in the caq application as the UAE/India and England (where i live) are not listed under any of the other options (unlike America, hence the confusion) and so Quebec immigration WILL send a copy to your Canadian visa office provided you listed it on your caq application. which means us special select foreigners can send off for a study permit at the same time as the caq is being processed. that’s according to the international student services pre-departure guide anyway. (which by the way, do you have? it’s really useful, you can download it at http://www.mcgill.ca/internationalstudents )

just reading through it now it says ‘once you have obtained your caq and study permit, you will be required to submit copies of both the caq and the study permit to the registrar’s office to recieve your permanent code’. which means we probably have a while to wait, doesn’t it?

and by the way, just to make your day even more fun, because of your country of residence you also have yet another visa to fill in! there’s a temporary residence visa that unfortunately you may also have to look into.

oh the joys of bureaucracy ;)
