Dorm recommendations?
My daughter and her friends have preferred the dorms on the âOld Quadâ for their central location (I have to laugh at that because itâs such a compact campus, and nothing is very far). That said, I donât think first years get to pick dorms. I think they just fill out a form with preferences and habits (quiet, neat, night-owl, etc.). I could be wrong as I never actually saw my daughterâs form. Since your son has already committed, you might want to join the Connecticut College Parents and Families FB page if you use FB. Many parents have posted photos of the various dorms and rooms there. Conn also has a video series called CamelCribs on its Instagram page where you can see video tours of the various dorms.
My son got in with Founders Award. It was a breathtaking moment, as we did not expect he will get in at all, as we just realized after him applying that it is very hard for international student to get accepted. Would love to learn all about LAC and Connecticut College. We just learned what NESCAC mean, and we hope we have a chance to learn more about Connecticut College and visit the school. And Congrats to those who got in!!
It really feels great to be valued and appreciated. We were so moved by the acceptance letter, especially for my son who has LD and being an underdog in his whole life. We are looking forward to connect with Connecticut College. All the best in finding the school that fits the best.
Iâm pretty sure you donât have a choice as first-years. My son is in a one-room triple in âthe plex,â which is the group of dorms in the north section of campus that are connected to the main dining hall. I think most first-years are there, but some are sprinkled around in other dorms.
I think that you can request the substance-free house (or floor?) as a first-year. But other than that, yes, itâs probably just up to chance.
Is there a lot to do on campus. Compared to other schools heâs looking at, there doesnât seem to be as much. Are there intramural and club sports?
There are at least some. I know there is club soccer, and my son is playing intramural futsal right now. But it is a small school, so itâs not going to have as much going on as a bigger school.
Yes, there are both club and intramural sports. You can find a list of available sports at the links below. There are many on- and -off campus events hosted by various dorms and clubs (Student Activities Council, Outdoor Adventures, etc.). There are dances and music festivals, as well as crafty events (build-your-own stuffed animal, decorate a tote bag, etc.). That said, itâs a small college, so whether itâs going to seem like enough for a student is very much going to depend on the student and what kind of experience theyâre seeking.
We liked their personal touches too. Was pleasantly surprised on our tour. Now freshmen year is one thing though- but there does not seem to much variety in dorm choices as you move up . Can anyone comment on the state of the dorms and variety?
My freshman is in a one-room triple this year and has a single next year. I think for upperclassmen there is an option to do apartment-style dorms.
Circling back to this post to see if you know the admins for that page or if it no longer exists. It seems that all of the new parents have their requests to join pending. A separate 2029 FB group was created, but everyone is interested in connecting with current parents.
It definitely still exists. The school admins the page and it typically takes a few weeks for them to add all the new parents in May. Happy to try to answer any questions here in the meantime, or feel free to message me.
