^ Thanks a lot. I’ve placed orders for both the Barron books.

For everyone that has been asking…

Barrons is the BEST for psychology. Princeton is crap for it, too much info. and Myers is the psych textbook most commonly used.

and for Environmental, used smarty-pants w/ Barrons if you are a self studier. ;)

Anyone have an idea for Spanish Lang? I don’t need the CD’s, but I’d like a review book for the exercises and whatnot.

I bet this has been said many times. But I read my friends PR micro/macro book in two days, and I think I got a 5 on the micro exam.
WITHOUT EVER TAKING A CLASS IN IT.

I dunno how good the other companies reviews are,
but that PR micro review dominated..

ALSO:

I agree with do not use barrons environmental science. it sucked. I read the whole thing, and almost none of the info was on the test, and none of it helped with FRQ’s. it said pollution was 1/3 of the test. there were something like 5 pollution questions.

-yes, AMSCO apush review is amazing. get it.

-no suggestions on lit books?

i dont suggest sparknotes pack for english language. at all.

KAPLAN us history in a box is amazing. i used it to review for SAT2 test after getting a 5 on apush the year before. they seemed to be really comprehensive and full of concepts, people, events, etc. for quick review, not a text-book like read.

any suggestions on flash cards? any of them good

I am taking four APs next year: US, Bio, Calc AB, and Stats.

AP US:
-Obviously AMSCO

AP Bio:
-Cliff Notes

AP Stats:
-My future teacher said to get REA (mandatory)
-Any other suggestions?

AP Calc. AB
-I think I am going to use Princeton Review

Any suggestions for Stats and Calc AB?

agentunderfire38: I took Stats last year and we used AMSCO in class. It was a great supplement to the class and I also used it to review for the AP exam. It explained the topics in an easy way. Not everyone in my class enjoyed it but it was really helpful to me.

Hi, I’m self-studying three APs for next year (09): AP Psych, AP Chem, AP Calc AB and I wanted to know which books would be best for independent study…

According to the consolidated list:

AP Psych - Barrons -> sure on this

AP Chem - PR or Barrons -> not sure on this. On Amazon, Barrons (2008) is reviewed very critically. Does the consolidated list consider the 2008 editions? Would PR 08 edition be a better choice?

AP Calculus AB - this is the one I need to study most rigorously for. PR seems good, but how about Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam? Also, can anyone recommend a not-so-expensive book on Calculus?

Thanks a lot

I know you can’t really use a book for AP Spanish…but still, just for entertainment, anyone have any suggestions?

From what I’ve read so far, the following books have been recommended for AP Calc:

1) Master the AP Calculus AB & BC -Peterson (Arco)
[Amazon.com: Master the AP Calculus AB & BC (Peterson’s Ap Calculus Ab & Bc): Peterson’s: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Master-AP-Calculus-AB-Petersons/dp/0768924707/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213599583&sr=1-1)

2) Be Prepared for the AP Calculus Exam - Howell, Montgomery
[Amazon.com: Master the AP Calculus AB & BC (Peterson’s Ap Calculus Ab & Bc): Peterson’s: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Master-AP-Calculus-AB-Petersons/dp/0768924707/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213599583&sr=1-1)
Note: Many people have been recommending this one but isnt it an old (2004) edition? Is it better than the latest editions of PR, ARCO etc?

3) Barron’s AP Calculus 2008
[Amazon.com: Barron’s AP Calculus 2008 (Barron’s How to Prepare for Ap Calculus Advanced Placement Examination): Shirley O. Hockett, David Bock: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Barrons-Calculus-Advanced-Placement-Examination/dp/0764136798/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213607751&sr=1-2)

4) PR Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2008 Edition
[Amazon.com: Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2008 Edition (College Test Prep): David S. Kahn: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Cracking-Calculus-Exams-2008-College/dp/0375766413/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1213607751&sr=1-1)

Also, Schaum’s Outline of Calculus ([Amazon.com: Schaum’s Outline of Calculus (Fourth Edition): Elliott Mendelson, Frank Ayres: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Schaums-Outline-Calculus-Elliott-Mendelson/dp/0070419736)) is rated very highly on Amazon.

I can buy upto 2 books. Which ones would you recommend? I will self study, so I need pretty comprehensive books, with lots of practice. Please, need advice.

An important question: I’m self-studying for APs May 09, so should I buy all the current 2008 editions now, or wait for the 2009 editions (Dec, this year). Since, I’m self-studying, it could make a big difference if an exam got a major revamp.

I don’t think the APs will get changed, maybe slightly. But, I would just get them now which is what I did. They are good preps for tests during the year in your classes as well. If the AP test doesn’t change, I don’t see much (if anything) changed in most books.

4 APs next year: Calc BC, Comp Sci AB, Euro, and Chem

What books do you recommend I buy?
From what I’ve read so far, it’s
Calc: Peterson’s, PR
Comp Sci: Barron’s, Be Prepared for the AP Computer Science Exam in Java
Euro: Modern European History (?) According to Amazon, it doesn’t have any practice problems/tests.
Chemistry: PR

whats the best book for calc ab? and also for self studying whats the best book for marco economics and psychology ?

The majority like Princeton Review for both econ. tests and both calc. tests. Pysch. is Barrons.

thxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

I used 5 steps to a 5 for my biology AP, and I think it worked pretty well. It wasn’t a boring, textbook kind of read.

i used cliff’s and barron’s for Bio
Barron’s is definitely the best one out there. helped me get a 5.

ok guys, i used a new ap geo book to study for the ap geo exam. It was AMAZING. In fact, one of the practice FRQs was right on the money!! the terms, review chapters, and practice questions were awesome. I also really liked the way it was written–it was as fun to read as possible for a review book…even some interesting facts along the way to keep your attention…so, I highly recommend that you check out the book if you are in the market…i even bet you could study it on your own and pass the test…i’m gaming for a 5…oh, it’s called “The Best Test Prep for AP Human Geography” and its published by REA…you can find it on Amazon, I think. I bought the one with the CD and found the CD kind of cool–I could practice on the computer. Good luck :)

it looks like PR is best for AP Bio and AP Chem according to this thread..

do i need prep books for Calc BC and AP english language?
