Which one is the ebst test prep company in general? and why?

Kaplan, Barrons and Princeton Review

Which one is the ebst test prep company in general? and why?

^ PR and then Barrons.

I like PR’s format and the way they present info. It’s really concise and easy to understand without all the extraneous info in Barrons. I like PR for a lot of my AP classes. Barrons cover like..EVERYTHING..which can be a good or bad thing.

Princeton Review than Kaplan IMHO. I tried Barrons once and thought it just wasted my time… PR is so down to earth and crack jokes every so often to make you feel comfortable when studying. Its really the best book. Kaplan is second best - I like the diagrams they have. Kaplan doesn’t joke around as much, but they get straight to the point. The formatting is relatively similiar. Section —> HW rinse repeat till the end of the section, than test.

I usually get PR, but sometimes B + N runs out and i settle for Kaplan. Barrons is just way too in depth. If you are genuinely interested in that material and have some time to spare than go for it, but I really wouldn’t recommend it…

Ok, so for physics…
I want to know what books are best for Physics B and C. I know these are two different tests, so which would be best for each of them? The reviews on amazon put 5 steps as good for B and AP Advantage for C. What do you suggest for each test?

Hi.
I am taking 5 APs next year and I might self study Psychology. But I bought my books before even seeing this thread.

Tell me if I am ok.

Calc: Princeton Review
Physics C: Princeton Review
Bio: Cliffs + 5 Steps
Chem: Cliffs + 5 Steps (probably should have gotten PR?)
Micro Macro Econ: Didn’t get one yet. Any suggestions?
Psych: probably just gonna use barrons

I wish I had seen this thread earlier and saved myself about $30 from buying those 2 chem books and that 5 steps book for Bio.

Uh… get PR for micro/macro econ (not the greatest, but the best out there. Cliffs is Horrible! i got a 5 on it too). Definitely use barron’s for Psych (I got a 5).

Please answer!

ok. when all of you say you used barrons for psych, is that it? you only read that book and got a 5? no textbook, extra tests?

in that case can I get a prep book that will get me a 5 for Stats and Comp Science AB

Comp Sci AB has been discontinued. I wouldn’t use a prep for Computer Science A (the only Comp Sci AP test), because hands-on programming is the absolute best way to learn computer science. However, I’ve heard that the “Be Prepared for the AP Computer Science Exam” book by Litvin is good, as is Barron’s.

SALVE:

Physics B - your best bet is 5 steps to a 5

Physics C - Princeton Review, plus you should have a strong calculus background

But I hope you know you can’t take both tests in one year. Physics B is tested at the same time of Physics C: Mechanics. But you can take Physics B and take C: EM

You CAN take both B and C: Mechanics. You just have to let your counselor/AP Coordinator know so that they can order a make up test for C: Mechanics.

EDIT: And I would get Princeton Review for B, C: Mechanics, and C: E&M

What is the best book for AP Stats? I have a book for it already, but I am not taking the class and I want a prep book that has good practice tests and enough info to get a 5 on the test. I have heard good things about cliffsAP. Should I get that?

Since everyone says that CliffsAP is the best for english lang, I was checking it out and apparently the 3rd edition is the most recent, but does anyone know when the 4th edition is coming? I wanna get that in case it is being released for 2010, so has anyone been informed yet?

R-KATT: I think Barron’s is the best for AP Stats.

Stimulus: I don’t know when the 4th ed is coming out, but chances are nothing will change unless the AP exam is being altered, which I don’t think is going to happen in 2010.

Oh all right thanks a lot immortalix

has anyone heard about 5 steps to a 5 for micro/macro economics? Supposedly it is amazing. Has anyone heard about it?

R-KATT: I have a friend who was using it, but I didn’t really hear much about it from him. I looked at it briefly and it seemed like a very straightforward and easy to understand book. Although, I think from what I saw the practice tests have some information that is not really pertinent to the real thing. I personally used Princeton Review, but it was very short and didn’t seem to go into much depth. I guess it went over enough though. My class was amazing, so that is probably why I got a 5 on the test.

Thanks. I think I am going with 5 steps since it has 4 practice tests and more course review.

So I need a couple of books this year and from quickly perusing through the thread and just want to double check

AP Chem-Princeton Review
AP World-I got Barrons from my cousin so I was wondering if this was good enough. I could get Princeton Review. Lots of people chose either one of these.
AP Stat-Looks like Barrons?
AP Calc-Im gonna be in AB but I’ll take BC next year. If there is a book that is good enough to use both years that would be useful. Around school people use Barrons, but I’ve heard about Petersons throught this thread.

If you have any suggestions, I would appreciate it

Ruff Ryder… hm..

Chem = Princeton Review

World = Barrons

Stats = Barrons

Calc = Petersons

Good Luck! Your choices all seem very good and well thought out.

Salve, which Petersons book are you talking about? Is it Master AP calc AB & BC?
