<p>^ That’s what I thought to. I did a run test and guessed on every question on the CR (Without even looking at the question or answer) section, and graded it, and got above a 300. A 270 just doesn’t even sound possible, even if you don’t speak english.</p>

<p>I didn’t study vocabulary. I tried to eliminate as many possiblities as I could and make an educated guess. If I completely didn’t know what the word can mean I left it blank.</p>

<p>Guys, I know someone who has been speaking English a lot more than a year, and understands the basics fine, but the SAT as too advanced for him (he’s in my very school) and got a 360 first try, and a 290 second try. I’ve seen them with my own eyes. A 270 isn’t “impossible”, though yes, guessing every single question should mathematically get you to over a 300, but if he wants to actually improve he should work.</p>

<p>You don’t “make” questions. You answer them. I think you need to focus on mastering the English language. All these studying techniques will get you nowhere until you master the language. I don’t understand how you can critically think about stories when your English is so broken.</p>

I’m in international student as well, and even though it’s a bit too early for me to take the SAT, I still tried it and got 660 on CR, so there’s no need to give up. Bear in mind that I only started learning English 2 years ago.
My biggest advice for you is to start reading more books/articles. Without extra reading no prep book will ever help you !
Plus, learn the roots in the first place. If you know a plenty of roots, you can identify words’ meanings without necessarily knowing the definition.
And stop aiming for “bad” universities, you always have to aim for the best, thus you can achieve more. change your attitude, and i bet you will see improvement. life is hard, but challenges make it more fun.</p>

<p>OMG me too! I can’t believe there was someone from my country on college confidential, anyways which school are you from? I know a perfect SAT prep center in Baku where you can significantly increase your score.
Plus, once you build English vocab you can get much higher score on Math, since in our state school they usually teach math at unbelievably high level.

<p>I’m glad too. I have learned 9 years in “Baku European Licey”(I’m living near it, near Narimanov monument, but now I trasfered myself to 150-school, in order to have more time to prepare for the SAT.</p>
<p>yeah i surely know that place, go to lingva prep center in gencilik, they have very decent teachers there… I’m from Baku International School in darnagul area…
additionaly, do the official sat question of the day, it’s a small practice but it worth doing it.

<p>what do you mean by college then? college only comes after you’ve completed 12 grades, it’s a bit too early for you to think about the SAT. This test is designed for seniors and juniors, so taking the test earlier than that makes absolutely no point for you, it’s just a waste of money and time. if you need to take a standardized English exam, just take TOEFL, because it was created for non-native speakers specifically.
No offense but the SAT is not for your level YET. Even people who speak English as their first language find it extremely hard, and i’m sure no one has any doubt about it. so don’t give up and stress yourself out!</p>

<p>Now my score is near 1500. My may TOEFL was 55, but now it’s about 80-90.</p>
